26 March, 2010 Equipment Authorization Division Federal Communications Commission 7435 Oakland Mills Road Columbia, MD 21046 Response to OET Correspondence Numbers 82741, 82742, 82744 Aviat Networks submits information in relation to the abovementioned correspondence numbers. The StarMAX 3160 Series is WiMAX Forum compliant terminal station (IEEE802.16-2005 standard based). The WiMAX Forum has created standard TDD system profiles where the DL:UL split ratios are specified. The DL:UL ratio range (in symbols, total amount of symbols in one 5ms air frame is 47) for 5MHz and 10MHz channel BW is between 35:12 and 26:21. The first 3 symbols in the UL are used for ranging and transmission of various feedback messages that are communicated with a relatively low duty cycle (every few 5ms frames) and minimum power on just few subchannels (3-10% of bandwidth) – so the terminal station TX duty cycle range is between 19% (9/47) and 38% (18/47). For particular applications the required DL:UL ratio could be very low and outside WiMAX Forum system profile values. Extreme DL:UL ratio supported by StarMAX 3160 Series is 11:36 which translates to 70% (33/47) TX duty cycle. Ruth French Product Compliance Manager
