Email: [email protected] Call: 888-573-8830 Web: www.ampedwireless.com ACA1 USER’S GUIDE 3 GETTING STARTED Package Contents Check to make sure you have all the contents within your package:  High Power Dual Band AC Wi-Fi USB Adapter  Detachable High Gain Dual Band 5dBi Antennas  USB 3.0 Cable  Setup Guide  CD: User's Guide and Software  Laptop Monitor Mounting Clip ACA1 USER’S GUIDE 4 Connectors and LED Indicators Mini USB 3.0: The included USB 3.0 cable attaches to the Mini USB connector on the Adapter. The other end connects to available USB ports on your PC. For maximum speed, a USB 3.0 port is required. The adapter is backwards compatible with USB 1.0 and 2.0 but will function at lower speeds. Do not attach the cable until after you have installed the software. Antenna Connector: RJ-SMA antenna connector - Compatible with all antennas with RP-SMA connectors. Upgradable to high gain antennas for more range. Activity LED: Blinks rapidly when wireless data traffic is passing through the High Power Adapter. ACA1 USER’S GUIDE 5 SETUP GUIDE Windows 8, 7 and Vista Installation a) Power on your PC and Insert the CD Locate the Setup CD and insert it into your CD drive. ACA1 USER’S GUIDE 6 When the Menu page appears click on Setup for Windows to begin the installation process. If the Menu page does not appear, select Run Autoload.exe if prompted or browse your CD drive and double-click the Autoload.exe file. b) Click Yes to allow the program to make changes and continue with the installation. ACA1 USER’S GUIDE 7 c) Continue with the Installation Click Next to proceed with the installation. d) Restart your Computer A prompt will appear asking you to restart your computer. Select Yes and click Finish to restart your computer. Be sure to save any unsaved work before clicking Finish to avoid losing any unsaved data. ACA1 USER’S GUIDE 8 e) Plug in the High Power USB Adapter After the computer has fully rebooted, locate an available USB ports (USB 3.0 port required for maximum performance) and insert the USB Adapter. Windows should automatically begin installing the driver for use with the USB Adapter. ACA1 USER’S GUIDE 9 f) Connect to a Wireless Network a) Select the Wi-Fi icon on your Windows desktop taskbar b) If your PC has a previously installed Wi-Fi adapter, your new Amped Wi-Fi adapter should appear as “Wi-Fi 2” or “Wireless Network Connection 2” and your original Wi-Fi adapter as “Wi-Fi” or “Wireless Network Connection”. c) Choose any network under “Wi-Fi 2” or “Wireless Network Connection 2” to connect to and enter the security key if prompted. ACA1 USER’S GUIDE 10 Disabling your Original Wi-Fi Adapter Disabling Wi-Fi 1 will stop it from showing up in your Wi-Fi available network list. This is not permanent. You can re-enable it by following Step E below. a) Go to the Windows 8 desktop and find the Wi-Fi icon. b) Right-click on the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar and select “Open Network and Sharing Center”. c) Select “Change Adapter Settings” from left side. d) Find your Wi-Fi icon (Not Wi-Fi 2), right-click it and “Disable” from the dropdown menu. Continue to next page... ACA1 USER’S GUIDE 11 e) To re-enable your original Wi-Fi adapter, follow the same steps above and click “Enable” at Step D instead of “Disable”.
