WARNING WARNING The radar antenna emits electromagnetic radio frequency (RF) energy which can be harmful, particularly to your eyes. Never look directly into the antenna aperture from a close distance while the radar is in operation or expose yourself to the transmitting antenna at a close distance. (Radiation hazard figures TBA at later time.) Do not open the equipment. Only qualified personnel should work inside the equipment. Make sure no is near the antenna unit before turning on the radar. Serious injury or death can result if someone is struck by a rotating radar antenna. Turn off the power immediately at the switchboard if water leaks into the equipment or the equipment is emitting smoke or fire. Continued use of the equipment can cause fire or electrical shock. No one navigation device should ever be solely relied upon for the navigation of the vessel. Always confirm position against all available aids to navigation, for safety of vessel and crew. A radar is useful as an anti-collision aid. However, it does not remove the require- ment for maintaining a vigilant watch. Always maintain a vigilant watch while underway. Do not leave ropes or other objects in the vicinity of the antenna unit. Fire, electrical shock or injury can result if an object becomes entangled in the antenna unit. Use the correct fuse. Use of an incorrect fuse can cause fire or serious damage to the equipment. WARNING To avoid electrical shock, do not remove cover. No user-serviceable parts inside. WARNING Radiation hazard. Chapter 1: Operational Overview 1-11 Context-Sensitive (Pop-up) Menus In addition to the menus, context-sensitive menus display commands relevant to the selected object or active display. Context menus let you quickly access useful com- mands according to the selected object or active display. To display a context-sensi- tive menu, hit the right-button key () while an object is selected, or hit the same key anywhere on the active display. The illustration below shows the Radar pop-up menu. Pop-up menu for radar To process items on a pop-up menu: 1. Rotate the Rotary Knob to select item. 2. To turn an item on or off, push the Rotary Knob to color the item’s status box in green to turn it on, or gray to turn it off. 3. For items which have no status box, push the Rotary Knob to proceed to the next level. Item status box Green: ON Gray: OFF No box Push RotoKnob to process item. Chapter 1: Operational Overview 1-12 NavData The four NavData boxes (default quantity) at the bottom off the display show various navigation data. You can select what to display and add or remove boxes freely. The data that can be displayed depends on your system configuration. To hide or show the boxes, use the DATA/VOL key. NavData can be configured with the NavData pop-up menu and from the NavData menu. NavData boxes To change the contents of a NavData box: 1. Put the cursor in the NavData box to process and hit the right-button key to show the NavData pop-up menu. The status box of the currently selected NavData category and available data are colored green. NavData pop-up ( cursor category) 2. If the data you wish to show is displayed in the available data area, rotate the Rotary Knob to select it and then push the Rotary Knob. If not, rotate the Rotary Knob to select applicable data category and then push it to change the available data. 3. Do one of the following depending on your selection. Turn item ON or OFF: Display status box in green to turn item on, or gray to turn it off. Alternate (2 data): Display the two items above this item alternately. Alternate (1 data): Display the two items above this item alternately. Add: Add a NavData box. (Available if less than four boxes are showing.) Remove: Remove a NavData box. 4. Push the Rotary Knob to confirm selection and close the pop-up menu. Data category Available data* * Contents chan ge according to data category. Chapter 1: Operational Overview 1-13 1.9 Menu Overview The menu system consists of 14 main menus and accompanying sub menus. The main menus are Routes, Waypoints, Chart, Radar, Fish finder (under development), NavData, Tracks, Targets, Weather, Alarms, General setup, Memory card processing, System configuration, and Own boat data. 1. Press the MENU key to open the menu. The menu most pertinent to the current operating mode appears. If an alarm has been violated, the Alarm menu automatically appears. 2. Rotate the Rotary Knob to choose a menu and then push the Rotary Knob. The background color of the menu selector changes from gray to green to indicate active menu. To switch to a different menu, hit the CANCEL key to change the background color back to gray. The CANCEL key can also be used for the same purpose while working in a sub menu. To a select a sub menu when there are multiple sub menus, rotate the Rotary Knob to choose desired sub menu and push the Rotary Knob. For example, choose the Settings sub menu. The cursor highlights the first item in the sub menu in gray and the square on the tab of the currently selected sub menu changes from gray to green to denote active sub menu. Rotate the Rotary Knob to select menu. Do one of the following depending on menu item selected. Combo box: push the Rotary Knob to open the box, rotate the Rotary Knob to choose option, and then push the Rotary Knob to confirm selection. ON/OFF item: Items which you turn on or off have a status box before them. To switch an item on or off, choose it and push the Rotary Knob to color the status box green to turn the item on, or gray to turn it off. Alphanumeric data input: Use the Cursorpad to put the cursor to the right of the alphanumeric data to change and push the Rotary Knob. Rotate the Rotary Knob to choose alphanumeric (A-Z, 0-9) desired and push it to confirm selection. Rotate the Rotary Knob clockwise to proceed in forward alphanumeric order; counterclockwise to go in reverse order. Show in green to turn ON; gray to turn OFF Value changes with knob rotation. Chapter 1: Operational Overview 1-16 1.10 Man Overboard (MOB) Function Use the MOB function if you lose a person or object overboard. You need either posi- tion data from a navigation device, or heading and speed data to calculate position by dead reckoning. The MOB feature is available on any mode. To mark MOB position, long-push the SAVE/MOB key. Then, the following occurs: • The MOB symbol is placed at current position. • The MOB data box appears and shows range and bearing from current position to MOB position. • Other units in the NavNet network are informed of MOB activation via an MOB message. Chapter 2: Chart Plotter Operation 2-18 Stop following a point You can stop following a point in two ways: select the point directly on the screen, or select the Points and Stop ROTOkeys. 1. Use the Cursorpad to select the point you want to stop following. 2. Push the right-button key to show the Points pop-up menu. 3. Rotate the Rotary Knob to select Inactive and push the Rotary Knob. The dotted line from own vessel to the point is erased from the screen. If you want to once again follow the point: 1) Select the point on the screen. 2) Open the Points pop-up menu. 3) Choose Go To and push the Rotary Knob. Navigation is then restarted from the point at which it was stopped. Chapter 2: Chart Plotter Operation 2-19 Moving a Point You can move a point two ways: • Drag its symbol to a new location • Enter new position manually on the Points list Moving a point on screen 1. Set the cursor on the point you wish to move. When the point is correctly selected it is magnified. 2. Hit the right-button key to show the point pop-up menu. Point pop-up menu 3. The cursor is selecting Move; push the Rotary Knob. 4. Using the Cursorpad, drag the symbol to new location and push the Rotary Knob to fix the point symbol to the new location. Moving point position at the Points list 1. Long-push the GO TO/LIST key to open the Alpha list. 2. Rotate the Rotary Knob to choose the point to edit and push the Rotary Knob.The Point edit pop-up menu appears and the screen is split in halves, with the chart on the right zoomed to show location of point. 3. Rotate the Rotary Knob to select Edit and push the Rotary Knob. The chart is then replaced with the point’s attributes and details. 4. The cursor is selecting the Position combo box. Push the Rotary Knob. 5. Enter position as follows: 1)Rotate the Rotary Knob to display latitude degree desired and push the Rotary Knob. 2)Push the Rotary Knob and the cursor jumps to latitude minutes thousandths/ hundreds place. Rotate the Rotary Knob to display desired value and then push it. 3)The cursor is now selecting the latitude minutes tens/ones place. Push the Rotary Knob. Rotate the Rotary Knob to display desired value and then push it. Waypoiint list pop-up menu Chapter 2: Chart Plotter Operation 2-20 4)The cursor is on the position coordinate, N or S. Rotate the Rotary Knob to switch coordinate to N or S or vice versa and then push it. 5)The cursor is now on the longitude field. Use the Rotary Knob to enter longi- tude, similar to how you entered latitude. 6. Rotate the Rotary Knob to choose the OK button on the display and then push the Rotary Knob. Editing Attributes and Details for a Point You can choose the point to edit in two ways: • Use the cursor to select the point on screen • View point data on the Points list 1. Do one of the following to display the Points list: 1)Choose the point on the screen and push the right-button key, or 2)Open the Points menu and then select the Alpha Points list. 2. Push the Rotary Knob to put the cursor in the Points list. 3. Rotate the Rotary Knob to select the point you want to edit. 4. Push the Rotary Knob to show the point Edit pop-up menu. 5. Rotate the Rotary Knob to choose Edit and push the Rotary Knob. Then, the point’s attributes and details appear on the right-halve of the screen. 6. The cursor is selecting the Position combo box. If necessary, push the Rotary Knob and enter position, referring to section 2.4 for the procedure. 7. To change the name of the point, select the Name box. Change the name as fol- lows: 1)Push the Rotary Knob consecutively to select location (character) to edit and push the Rotary Knob. (To clear a line of data, use the Rotary Knob.) 2)Rotate the Rotary Knob to select desired alphanumeric character and push the Rotary Knob. 01°12.9158'S; 000°30.9755'W Waypoint attributes and details Chapter 2: Chart Plotter Operation 2-21 3)Repeat steps 1 and 2 to complete the name. A name can have up to 32 alpha- numeric characters. 8. Select Group if you have some groups registered and you want to put this point into one of those groups. Choose the name of the group from the combo box and push the Rotary Knob. 9. Select Comment to provide a comment about the point. A comment is entered in the same manner as Name. You can use up to 32 alphanumeric characters for a comment. 10.Depth and Water Temperature are the depth and water temperature of the loca- tion at the time of entry. Applicable sensors are necessary to display this data. If necessary you can change this data. 11.Use Avoidance Circle Area to specify the distance to use for the proximity alarm, which alerts you when own ship is within "x" miles from a point. For details about the proximity alarm, see the section on alarms. 12.Select Point Icon if you want to change the point symbol for the point selected, 32 symbols are available. 13.Select Point Color to change the color of the square in the point symbol. Seven colors are available: red, yellow, green, light blue, purple, dark blue, and gray. 14.To finish, select the OK button and push the Rotary Knob. Finding a Point on a Map You can easily find the position of a point on your map from the Alpha list. 1. Long-push the GO TO/LIST key to show the Alpha list. 2. Choose the point and push the Rotary Knob. The Points list pop-up menu appears. 3. Rotate the Rotary Knob to choose Find on Map and then push the Rotary Knob. 4. The menu is closed and the full-screen map window appears, with the point selected at the center of the map. Finding Nearest Port from a Point You can easily find the port nearest a point as follows. 1. Put the cursor on the point from which you want to know where the nearest port is located. 4-1 Chapter 4: ARPA Operation This Automatic Radar Plotting Aid (ARPA) tracks the movement of up to 30 radar tar- gets. Targets can be acquired manually or automatically. All 30 targets can be ac- quired manually when the ARPA acquisition area is inactive. With the acquisition area that total is equally divided between manual and auto acquisition. ARPA requires speed and heading data. The symbols used in this radar comply with IEC 60872-1. WARNING No one navigational aid should be relied upon for the safety of vessel and crew. The navigator has the responsibility to check all aids available to confirm position. Electronic aids are not a substitute for basic navigational principles and common sense. • This auto plotter automatically tracks an automatically or manually acquired radar target and calculates its course and speed, indicating them by a vector. Since the data generated by the auto plotter are based on what radar targets are selected, the radar must always be optimally tuned for use with the auto plotter, to ensure required targets will not be lost or unwanted targets such as sea returns and noise will not be acquired and tracked. • A target does not always mean a land- mass, reef, ships or other surface vessels but can imply returns from sea surface and clutter. As the level of clutter changes with environment, the operator should properly adjust the A/C SEA, A/C RAIN and GAIN controls to be sure target echoes are not eliminated from the radar screen. CAUTION The plotting accuracy and response of this auto plotter meets IMO standards. Tracking accuracy is affected by the following: • Tracking accuracy is affected by course change. One to two minutes is required to restore vectors to full accuracy after an abrupt course change. (The actual amount depends on gyrocompass specifications.) • The amount of tracking delay is inversely proportional to the relative speed of the target. Delay is on the order of 15–30 seconds for high relative speed; 30–60 seconds for low relative speed. Display accuracy is affected by the following: • Echo intensity • Radar transmission pulsewidth • Radar bearing error • Gyrocompass error • Course change (own ship or target) Chapter 4: ARPA Operation 4-2 4.1 Enabling, Disabling ARPA 1. On the Chart Plotter or Radar display, long-push the Rotary Knob. 2. Select the Targets ROTOkey and push the Rotary Knob. 3. Select the ARPA ROTOkey. 4. Push the Rotary Knob to alternately enable and disable the ARPA display. 4.2 Manually Acquiring a Target 1. Use the Cursorpad to put the cursor on the target you want to acquire. 2. Press the right-button key to show the Radar pop-up menu. 3. Select Acquire Target and push the Rotary Knob. A target just acquired is marked with a broken square and a vector appears within 20 scans of the antenna to indicate the target's motion trend. Within 60 scans, the initial tracking stage is finished and the target becomes ready for stable tracking. At this point, the broken square mark changes to a solid circle. (Targets automatically ac- quired are distinguished from those acquired manually. The targets which are ac- quired manually are displayed by bold symbol.) Note 1: For successful acquisition, the target to be acquired should be within 0.2 to 32 nm from own ship and not obscured by sea or rain clutter. Note 2: When the capacity for manual acquisition is reached, an appropriate message appears in the text message area. Cancel tracking of non-threatening targets if you wish to acquire additional targets manually. Note 3: Acquisition is also possible with the ROTOkeys. Select the target to acquire, long-push the Rotary Knob, choose the Target ROTOkey followed by the Acquire RO- TOkey. 4.3 Clearing a Lost Target On the radar or chart plotter display, place the cursor on the lost target and select the ROTOkeys Target and Clear Lost. ARPA Symbol Meaning Immediately after acquisition. Within 20 scans of the antenna after acquisition, a vector appears to show a trend of movement. Within 60 scans of the antenna after acquisition, the plotting symbol changes to a small circle, indicating steady-state tracking condition. Lost target is indicated by flashing diamond symbol. The diamond is formed from two equal triangles. (flashing) Chapter 4: ARPA Operation 4-3 4.4 Cancelling Tracking of Targets ARPA targets can be cancelled individually or collectively as shown below. All targets can also be cancelled from the Radar pop-up menu. 1.For cancelling individual target, use the Cursorpad to put the cursor on the tar- get you want to cancel tracking. 2. Long-push the Rotary Knob. 3. Select the Targets ROTOkey and push the Rotary Knob. 4. Select the Cancel or Cancel All ROTOkey as applicable and push the Rotary Knob. Tracking is cancelled and targets are erased from the screen. 4.5 CPA/TCPA Alarm The CPA/TCPA alarm is useful for alerting to possible collision situations. With the alarm active, the ARPA continuously monitors the predicted range at the Closest Point of Approach (CPA) and predicted time to CPA (TCPA) of each tracked target to own ship. When the predicted CPA of any target becomes smaller than a preset CPA alarm range and its predicted TCPA less than a preset TCPA alarm limit, the buzzer sounds and an appropriate text message appears. In addition, the ARPA symbol changes to a triangle and flashes together with its vector. Provided that this feature is used correctly, it will help prevent the risk of collision by alerting you to threatening targets. However, it is important that gain, sea and rain con- trols are properly adjusted. CPA/TCPA alarm ranges must be set up properly taking into consideration the size, tonnage, speed, turning performance and other characteristics of own ship. Setting the CPA/TCPA Alarm 1. Press the MENU key to open the menu. 2. Select the Radar sub menu. 3. Select CPA/TCPA Alarm. 4. Push the Rotary Knob to show the status box in green to activate the CPA/TCPA alarm. 5.
