INSTRUCTION MANUAL UHF FM REPEATER iFR4000 i IMPORTANT READ THIS INSTRUCTION MANUAL CAREFULLYbefore attempting to operate the re- peater. SAVE THIS INSTRUCTION MANUAL–This manual contains important safety and operating in- structions for the IC-FR4000. EXPLICIT DEFINITIONS RWARNING HIGH VOLTAGE! NEVERat- tach an antenna or internal antenna connector during transmission. This may result in an electrical shock or burn. RNEVERapply AC to the [BATTERY] terminals on the repeater rear panel. This could cause a fire or damage the repeater. RNEVERapply more than 16 V DC, such as a 24 V battery, to the [BATTERY] terminals on the repeater rear panel. This could cause a fire or damage the re- peater. RNEVERlet metal, wire or other objects touch any internal part or connectors on the rear panel of the re- peater. This may result in an electric shock. RNEVERexpose the repeater to rain, snow or any liquids. AVOIDusing or placing the repeater in areas with tem- peratures below –30°C (–22°F) or above +60°C (+140°F). Be aware that temperatures on a vehicle’s dashboard can exceed 80°C (+176°F), resulting in per- manent damage to the repeater if left there for ex- tended periods. AVOIDplacing the repeater in excessively dusty envi- ronments or in direct sunlight. AVOIDputting anything on top of the repeater. This will obstruct heat dissipation. Place the repeater in a secure place to avoid inadver- tent use by children. BE CAREFUL!The heatsink will become hot when op- erating the repeater continuously for long periods. BE CAREFUL!If a linear amplifier is connected, set the repeater’s RF output power to less than the linear amplifier’s maximum input level, otherwise, the linear amplifier will be damaged. Use Icom microphones only (optional). Other manu- facturer’s microphones have different pin assignments, and connection to the IC-FR4000 may damage the re- peater. For U.S.A. only CAUTION:Changes or modifications to this repeater, not expressly approved by Icom Inc., could void your authority to operate this repeater under FCC regula- tions. PRECAUTION WORD R WARNING CAUTION NOTE DEFINITION Personal injury, fire hazard or electric shock may occur. If disregarded, inconvenience only. No risk of personal injury, fire or electric shock. Equipment damage may occur. American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 February 25, 2003 RE: FCC ID: AFJ236803 Attention: Tri Luu I have a few comments on this Application. 1. Please provide photo of what is under the shields on pages 2 and 11 of the internal photos. 2. FYI no action unless desired – I did not notice the manual having any instructions on the outside antenna structure. I assume this device is to be mounted on a permanent outdoor structure. Also, while this is a fixed base transmitter, I did not see any instructions or cautions on installation of the antenna in regards to separation. Is this intentional or has it just been left out of the manual? Dennis Ward mailto:[email protected] The items indicated above must be submitted before processing can continue on the above referenced application. Failure to provide the requested information may result in application termination. Correspondence should be considered part of the permanent submission and may be viewed from the Internet after a Grant of Equipment Authorization is issued. Please do not respond to this correspondence using the email reply button. In order for your response to be processed expeditiously, you must submit your documents through the AmericanTCB.com website. (2) The equipment under test is a fixed base station with the antenna located outdoor on the top-roof or antenna tower. It is exempted from FCC RF Exposure requirement. Some FCC examiners do not want the RF Exposure statement in the users manual for fixed base station at all since it is not applicable by FCC Rules. In the past, FCC requested the our clients to remove the RF Exposure statement from the users manual for fixed base station when it was provided. I questioned them and they said it was only required for mobile (it is very weird since what is wrong if it is provided any way), I questioned different FCC examiners for 2nd opinions, and some said the same things but some said it was optional for fixed base station. In conclusion, it is not required for fixed base station. But if you still want to have it, we have to wait for at least one week for it to be corrected by the manufacturer in Japan. Can you certify without the MPE?
