42 11 SAFETY TRAINING INFORMATION Your Icom radio generates RF electromagnetic energy during transmit mode. This radio isdesigned for and classified as β€œ Occupational Use Only ” , meaning it must be used only during the course of employment by individuals awareof the hazards, and the ways to minimize such hazards. This radio is NOT intended for use by the β€œ General Population ” in an uncontrolled environment. This radio has been tested and complies with the FCC RFexposure limits for β€œ Occupational Use Only ” . In addition, your Icom radio complies with the following Standards andGuidelines with regard to RF energy and electromagneticenergy levels and evaluation of such levels for exposure tohumans: β€’ FCC OET Bulletin 65 Edition 97-01 Supplement C, Evaluating Compliance with FCC Guidelines for HumanExposure to Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields. β€’ American National Standards Institute (C95.1-1992), IEEE Standard for Safety Levels with Respect to HumanExposure to Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields, 3kHz to 300 GHz. β€’ American National Standards Institute (C95.3-1992), IEEE Recommended Practice for the Measurement ofPotentially Hazardous Electromagnetic Fields – RF and Microwave. β€’ The accessories (antennas, batteries, belt clips, speaker- microphone, etc. that is listed on Pages 39 – 40) are authorized for use with this product. Use of accessoriesother than those speci fi ed may result in RF exposure lev- els exceeding the FCC requirements for wireless RFexposure. To ensure that your expose to RF electro- magnetic energy is within the FCC allow-able limits for occupational use, alwaysadhere to the following guidelines: β€’ DO NOT operate the radio without a proper antenna attached, as this may damaged the radio and may alsocause you to exceed FCC RF exposure limits. A properantenna is the antenna supplied with this radio by themanufacturer or antenna specifically authorized by themanufacturer for use with this radio. β€’ DO NOT transmit for more than 50% of total radio use time ( β€œ 50% duty cycle ” ). Transmitting more than 50% of the time can cause FCC RF exposure compliancerequirements to be exceeded. The radio is transmittingwhen the TX indicator lights red. You can cause the radioto transmit by pressing the β€œ PTT ” switch or VOX function. β€’ ALWAYS keep the antenna at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) away from the body when transmitting and only use the Icombelt-clips listed on page 39 when attaching the radio toyour belt, etc., to ensure FCC RF exposure compliancerequirements are not exceeded. To provide the recipientsof your transmission the best sound quality, hold theantenna at least 5 cm (2 inches) from your mouth, andslightly off to one side. The information listed above provides the user with the infor-mation needed to make him or her aware of RF exposure, and what to do to assure that this radio operates with theFCC RF exposure limits of this radio. Power listed is conducted. This device must be restricted to work related operations in an Occupational/Controlled RF exposure Environment, not exceeding a maximum transmitting duty factor of 50%. All qualified end-users of this device must have the knowledge to control their exposure conditions and/or duration to comply with the Occupational/Controlled MPE limit and requirements. A label, as described in this filing, must be displayed on the device to direct users to specific training information for meeting Occupational Exposure Requirements. SAR compliance for body-worn operating configurations is limited to the specific belt-clip tested for this filing. End-users must be informed of the body-worn operating requirements for satisfying RF exposure compliance. The highest reported SAR levels are: Face Held: 1.76W/kg for 50% Duty Cycle; Body Worn: 3.04W/kg for 50% Duty Cycle.
