This Quick Start Guide contains instructions for setting up and using your Savi W440 (D100 + WH500 Headset) Wireless Headset System. The indicator light on the USB adapter will be solid red to indicate the USB adapter is powered on and will turn solid green when it finds the headset. 1-2. The USB adapter can be folded as shown. NOTE The headset may need to be charged before the USB adapter can find it. IMPORTANT NOTE It is recommended that Windows be updated with Service Pack levels listed below: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later 2 Connecting Power Supply to Charger Base 2-1. Connect the base power supply into the power jack on the charger base. 2-2. Connect the power supply to the outlet. The power indicator light will be solid green. 3 Installing Battery to Headset 3-1. Position the battery as shown on headset and slide into position until the battery snaps into place. NOTE This product has a replaceable battery. Use only the battery type supplied by Plantronics. 4 Choosing Wearing Style 4-1. If you prefer the over-the-ear style, attach the earloop first and then the eartip to the headset. NOTE Ensure the large end of the eartip faces down towards the microphone. 4-2. If you prefer the over-the-head style, attach the headband to the headset. 5 Docking and Charging Headset 5-1. Gently push the headset into the charge cradle. The indicator light on the headset will flash white to indicate that the headset battery is charging. 5-2. Charge for at least 20 minutes prior to the first use. A full charge takes 3 hours. NOTE The USB charging cable can also be used to charge the headset. To successfully charge your headset with the USB cable the PC must be on and in an active state (not standby). The charging time will vary according to the number of other devices drawing power from the PC’s USB port(s). While wearing your headset, press the call control button on the headset. The USB adapter indicator light will flash green indicating a radio link is active with the headset. 6-2. Place a test call using your softphone or UC application. 6-3. Adjust the receive and transmit volume to comfortable levels using the volume control in your softphone or UC application audio set up. 6-4. You can also fine tune the listening volume on the headset. When wearing the headset on your right ear, push the volume button up to increase the volume and push the volume button down to decrease the volume. The opposite is true when wearing on left ear. 6-5. Press the volume button in to mute/unmute the call. The USB adapter indicator light will flash red when the headset is muted. 6-6. To end the test call, press the call control button on the headset. Do not use headphones / headsets at high volumes for an extended period of time. Doing so can cause hearing loss. Whenever possible, use your headset or headphones in a quiet environment with low background noise. 3. Limit the amount of time you use headsets or headphones at high volume levels. 4. Turn the volume down if the sound from the headset/headphones prevent you from hearing people speaking near you. Unlinked is when the ends of the system are out of range. Linked but no voice path open is when the system is ready for use but no voice path is active (idle locked), and linked with voice paths open is when the system is in use for voice communication. Audio can be provided from the telephone and/or the USB interface. Transmission Mode The headset unit is mated with the base unit (subscribed to each other) under normal operation. The communications link is custom (double-slot) TDMA (UPCS standard), and is symmetrical; both ends of the link transmit using the same protocol. Maximum Duty Cycle Maximum Duty Cycle occurs when the headset and base are in a wideband audio link. Maximum duty cycle (wideband audio mode) is approximately 8.3%. For each end of the active link in wideband audio mode, a unit transmits for 2 out of 24 timeslots Æ 2:24 duty cycle. The DECT frame rate is 10ms, so each end of the link transmits for approximately 800 uS every 10ms when the system is linked and active. In narrowband audio mode, the duty cycle is exactly half that in wideband audio mode, so approximately 4.1%. When the system is linked but voice paths are not open (headset is “idle-locked” to the base) the base transmits with a 1.3% duty cycle (130uS every 10mS). In this mode the headset will transmit link maintenance information every thirty seconds. When unlinked and out of range (the headset cannot hear the base), the headset does not transmit, and the base transmits at a 1.3% duty cycle (130uS every 10mS). Two time slots are used for wideband audio, effectively doubling the duty cycle, minus idle time. The main sections of this report documents the normal mode operation in the high power setting. Appendix A documents the WBM compliance testing for any tests that do or may operate differently from the normal mode. The headset EUT also is capable of RF power control. Compliance to C63.17-2006 is documented in Appendix B which repeats any testing that may operate differently from maximum power mode, or affect the access threshold. The power control modes are fixed, or adaptive. Adaptive power control will allow the RF transmitter to adjust the output power from maximum to minimum in approximately 4-5dB steps. Fixed power mode does not allow power control. The user can select between adaptive or fixed but can not set the power range, this is done during EUT factory set up. The specific unit tested is headset SN: 05F9ED317. Manufacturer’s attestations, mandatory declarations and descriptions The Wireless Headset WH500 uses only digital modulation. Clause 4.11 in C63.17-2006 requires the following declarations to be made by the manufacturer. These declarations are used in demonstrating compliance with certain sections of 47CFR15 subpart D, and in support of test parameters within C63.17-2006. The channel plan. Five RF carriers are used, as follows: 1928.448 MHz. 1926.720 MHz. 1924.992 MHz. 1923.264 MHz. 1921.536 MHz. Maximum EUT antenna gain GA (dBi), and orientation and polarization for maximum gain. The maximum headset EUT antenna gain is 3dBi. The antenna is elliptically polarized with the major axis of polarization parallel to the headband portion of the headset disposed away from the user’s head, and with the minor axis of polarization on the same plane as the electrical board and perpendicular headband portion of the headset. Maximum peak power level Maximum specified peak conducted power level for the headset EUTs is +20.0dBm. Minimum peak power level The maximum power level at the minimum RF power setting is specified peak conducted power level for the headset EUTs is +4.0dBm. Emission bandwidth Emission bandwidth measured according to the procedures of C63.17-2006 clause 6.1.3 for the headset EUT is 1.45MHz. Nominal receive bandwidth Nominal receive bandwidth is +/-500kHz. 4/125 Frame period and time slot plan, if TDMA techniques are used The EUT system is a TDMA system which “further divides access in time” in the context of clause 6.2.2 of C63.17- 2006. Frame period is 10mS. There are 24 timeslots per frame, with one of the first 12 timeslots used for the headset transmissions and one of the last 12 timeslots used for the base transmissions. Transmit and receive timeslots are 5mS apart in time. The headset can also be set to wideband audio mode (WBM) which uses 2 of the 12 timeslots for headset transmissions and 2 of the timeslots for headset receipt. Transient events occur during which two non-adjacent timeslots may be in use by the base during the setup of the communications channel, or by both the base and the headset EUT as the system does a soft handoff in response to interference. Minimum and maximum burst length, if TDMA techniques are used Minimum burst length is 390uS, transmissions from the headset when a communications channel is open. Maximum burst length is 780uS, transmissions from the headset when a communications channel is open.
