Any PC directly attached to the unit can access the management interface using a web browser, such as Internet Explorer (version 5.0 or above). The initial configuration steps can be made through the web browser interface using the Setup Wizard. It is recommended to make the initial changes by connecting a PC directly to the access point before installing it in its intended location. The access point has a default IP address of 192.168.1.20 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. If your PC has an IP address on the same subnet (that is, the PC and access point addresses both start 192.168.1.x), you can connect immediately to the web interface. Otherwise, you must first change your PCís IP address to be on the same subnet as the access point. Logging into the Web Interface In the web browserís address bar, type the default IP address: http://192.168.1.20. The web browser displays the access pointís login page. The User ID is fixed as ìadmin.î There is no default password, so just leave the Password box blank and click LOGIN. Note:It is strongly recommended that you configure a password. If a password is not configured, the management interface is not protected and anyone that can connect to the access point may be able to compromise your network security. For information on configuring a password, see ìAdministrationî on page 2-7. Figure 1-1. Login Page Initial Configuration 1-2 1 The home page displays the Main Menu. There are two options available, you can configure the basic features of the access point using the Setup Wizardís simple steps, or you can configure all features in detail using the Advanced Setup menu. Figure 1-2. Home Page Using the Setup Wizard There are only a few basic steps you need to set up the access point and provide a connection for your Wi-Fi phone and network access for other wireless stations. The Setup Wizard takes you through configuration procedures for the general network settings, such as IP configuration, wireless network name (Service Set Identifier), and wireless security. Follow these steps: 1.Launch the Setup Wizard ñ Click ìStart with Setup Wizardî on the home page. Using the Setup Wizard 1-3 1 2.Operation Mode Setting ñ Select an operation mode according to how your divice will function. Figure 1-3. Setup Wizard - Network Setting (AP) There are three operation modes: ïAP ó Set the device as an Access Point. ïRepeater ó Set the device as a Wireless Repeater to relay messages between subnetworks that use different protocols or cable types. The Root AP MAC Address can be assigned manually or selected after click ìScanî. Figure 1-4. Setup Wizard - Network Setting (Repeater) Initial Configuration 1-4 1 ïBridge ó Set the device as a Wireless Bridge to connect two local-area networks (LANs), or two segments of the same LAN that use the same protocol. The Bridge Nodes need to be assigned manually by the user. Figure 1-5. Wizard - Network Setting (Repeater) Using the Setup Wizard 1-5 1 3.Network Setting ñ Sets the access pointís IP address assignment method and configures the local Dynamic Host Configuration Prototcol (DHCP) server and Network Address Translation (NAT) settings. Figure 1-6. Setup Wizard - Network Setting There are three basic methods for configuring the access pointís IP address: ïDynamic IP ó The IP address is assigned automatically from a home gateway router or other device that has a DHCP server feature. ïPPPoE ó The IP address is assigned automatically from an Internet service provider (ISP) through an ADSL modem using Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE). If your ISP has provided you with a user name and password, enter these in the corresponding text boxes under PPPoE Setting. ïStatic IP ó The IP address is assigned manually by the user. This may be required if your access point is connected to a home gateway router or other device that does not support a DHCP server. If you select Static IP, enter an appropriate IP address and subnet mask that are compatible with your existing network. If a management station exists on another network segment, then you must enter the IP address for a Default Gateway that can route traffic between these segments. Also enter the IP address for the Domain Name Server (DNS) to be used for host-name to IP address resolution. Initial Configuration 1-6 1 Figure 1-7. Setup Wizard - DHCP Server and NAT Settings DHCP Server/NAT Setting ó This access point includes a DHCP server that can assign IP addresses to any wireless station or Wi-Fi phone requesting the service. Addresses are assigned from a common address pool configured on the access point. You can configure the address pool by specifying start and end IP addresses. NAT is a standard method of mapping multiple ìinternalî IP addresses to one ìexternalî IP address on devices at the edge of a network. For the access point, the internal (local) IP addresses are the IP addresses assigned to wireless clients by the DHCP server, and the external IP address is the IP address assigned to the access point itse…

Maximum Permissible Exposure Test Report for NXA-WAP250G 1.0 Introduction The report has been prepared on behalf of AMX Corporation NXA-WAP250G to show compliance with the RF Exposure. 1.1 Requirements Three different categories of transmitters are defined by the FCC in OET Bulletin 65. These categories are fixed installation, mobile and portable and are defined as follows: ƒ Fixed installation: fixed location means that the device, including its antenna, is physically secured at a permanent location and is not able to be easily moved to another location. Additionally, distance to humans form the antenna is maintained to at least 2 meters. ƒ Mobile Devices: a mobile device is defined as a transmitting device designed to be used in other than fixed locations and to be generally used in such a way that a separation distance of at least 20 centimeters is normally maintained between the transmitter’s radiating structures and the body of the user or nearby persons. Transmitters designed to be used by consumers or workers that can be easily re-located are considered mobile devices if they meet the 20 centimeter separation requirement. The FCC rules for evaluating mobile devices for RF compliance are found in 47 CFR 2.1091. ƒ Portable Devices: a portable device is defined as a transmitting device designed to be used so that the radiating structure(s) of the device is/are within 20 centimeters of the body of the user. Portable device requirements are found in Section 2.1093 of the FCC’s Rules (47 CFR 2.1093) For this test report the AMX Corporation NXA-WAP250G is being done as a mobile device and the MPE is evaluated at the 20cm test distance. The FCC also categorizes the use of the device as based upon the user’s awareness and ability to exercise control over his or her exposure. Exposure and General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure. These two categories are defined as follows: ƒ Occupational/controlled Exposure: In general, occupational/controlled exposure limits are applicable to situation in which persons are exposed as a consequence of their employment, who have been made fully aware of the potential for exposure. Awareness of the potential for RF exposure in a workplcae or similar environment can be provided through specific training as part of a RF safety program. If appropriate, warning signs and labels can also be used to establish such awareness by providing prominent information on the risk of potential exposure and instructions on methods to minimize such exposure risks. ƒ General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure: The general population / uncontrolled exposure limits are applicable to situations in which the general public may be exposed or in which persons who are exposed as a consequence of their employment may not be made fully aware of the potential for exposure or cannot exercise control over their exposure. Members of the general public would come under this category when exposure is not employment-related; for example, in the case of a wireless transmitter that exposes persons in its vicinity. Warning labels placed on low-power consumer devices such as cellular telephones are not considered sufficient to allow the device to be considered under the occupational/controlled category, and the general population/uncontrolled exposure limits apply to these devices. Since there are no warnings or training associated with this unit and it can be used by anyone, Wireless Access Point is evaluated to the General Population / Uncontrolled Exposure limits. 1.2 Radio Frequency Radiation Exposure Evaluation According to 1.1310 of the FCC rules, the power density limit for General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure is 1mW/cm 2 . As this is a mobile application the MPE shall be calculated at 20cm to show compliance with the power density limit.
