To Whom It May Concern:: As per FCC Public Notice # DA 00-1407: Requirement #3: The Equipment Under Test (EUT), which was qualified as an RF modular at Compatible Electronics, Inc. on (Date), was tested in the following configuration: The RF Module was setup outside a Desktop configuration. The RF Module was connected to a Mini PCI to CardBus extender (Adapter #1), via the Mini PCI connector. The Mini PCI to CardBus extender was then connected to a CardBus to PCI adapter (Adapter #2), which was connected to the PCI Bus of the Desktop computer. Both, adapter and extender were copper shielded and grounded (Chassis Ground) in order to prevent radiated emissions getting out of the desktop computer via the extender and possibly out of the RF Module. In order to test the RF module, half of the Extender was outside the desktop computer. Because of this particular setup, the other half of the extender was grounded to Chassis ground using copper tape. The Module’s own RF Shielding was NOT connected to chassis ground. The tabs of the Mini PCI Module were connected to Chassis ground. In a real notebook computer environment, these tabs connect the digital ground of the Mini PCI Card to Chassis ground.

MODULAR TRANSMITTER REQUIREMENTS 1. The Modular Transmitter has its own power supply regulation located on U7 & U15 (Please See BOM or Schematics) 2. The Modular Transmitter has its own RF Shielding (See External and Internal Photographs) 3. The Modular Transmitter has antenna that complies with section 15.203. It has a UFL at the RF Transmitter Module End to (either hardwired to the antenna or to an MMCX end, depending on OEM configuration) 4. The Module Transmitter was tested in a stand-along configuration (See Compatible Electronics Test Report) 5. The Modular Transmitter will be labeled with its own FCC ID. Also, the Notebook Computer Manufacturer will be informed to display a label referring to the enclosed module. The exterior label will say: “Contains Transmitter Module FCC ID: J3OM3AWEB56GA” or “Contains TXFCCID: J3OM3AWEB56GA 6. The RF Exposure Limits Mentioned in Section 15.247 (b)(4) of the FCC Rules and regulations are included in the Manual (See Application)

The FCC is still using Adobe 4.0 as their preferred document software. It is completely incompatible with the security settings you used in converting your Exhibits using Acrobat 5.0. I was not able to remove the encryption myself, so I must ask you to remove all encryption and upload all documents again to the American TCB website. Please use the word Revised in the MS-DOS file name. 2.) Please extract the test setup photos from the test report and add to the Test Setup photos Exhibit. 3.) It is not completely clear where the label will be placed in the card. Please provide photo or line drawing identifying where the label will be placed on the device. 4.) There is a statement in the Test Report which states that the Foxcom antenna is not part of the modular approval. Is this true? If so, why are you showing it in the RF Exposure report? 5.) There is a local oscillator which shows up ~400MHz below the carrier frequency. If the LO is present when the Tx is placed in Rx mode, or the transmitter final stage is turned off, it is considered an Unintentional emission, and therefore subject to the Class B limits. Was this emission investigated? 6.) A Confidentiality Request letter is required. 7.) Is a Part 68 Application for this device pending? If you have any questions give me a call. William H. Setup #2: The RF Module was setup inside a Desktop configuration. The RF Module was connected to a PCI Caddy, which is a Mini PCI to PCI card adapter. The TX Antenna of the RF Module is mechanically attached to the PCI Caddy on the outside of the metal slot. The antenna was mechanically design to be at a 90 degree angle from the backside of the desktop computer in order to avoid breaking the antenna when located close to a wall or any other objects. Consequently when RF emission measurements were taken in this setup, the 90 degree angle of the antenna (which was originally the same antenna gain as setup #1) was causing many more additional RF reflections with respect to the back of the desktop computer (which was metal). Because of this very specific test setup, (plus our marketing strategy of the 90 degree angle antenna) the only way to comply FCC Subpart C regulations, was to REDUCE the ANTENNA GAIN (antenna Gain= -4dbi) in order to keep the same RF output power used in setup #1. Furthermore, it was proven that the worst-case scenario was in setup #1 due to the higher antenna gain & also the PCI Bus clock of the desktop computer was physically longer with respect to the load (RF Module) Setup #1 used an ANTENNA GAIN of 0dbi Please see Compatible Electronics Test Reports/Packages for Photographs and Data.

RESPONSES TO QUESTIONS FROM AMERICAN TCB FOR THE FCC-ID: J3OM3AWEB56GA 1.) The FCC is still using Adobe 4.0 as their preferred document software. The files were not encrypted, they were merely protected so that they could not be modified. This is the identical way that we have been submitting data to the FCC and TCBs for years. 2.) Please extract the test setup photos from the test report and add to the Test Setup photos Exhibit. Response: The Setup Photos are under M3AWEB56GA\TestSetupPhotos\SETUP_TCB.PDF 3.) It is not completely clear where the label will be placed in the card. Please provide photo or line drawing identifying where the label will be placed on the device. Response: The FCC-ID Label exhibit has been revised and will include the photo and drawing showing where the label will be placed on the device. Please see the file FCC-ID_Label_Revised.pdf 4.) Operational Description

Description of the M3AWEB56GA The MPCI Type III A 802.11B + Modem 56K Card Model: M3AWEB56GA is a WLAN Mini PCI adapter that enables high-speed access to internet and intranet assets without wires. This card uses the IEEE 802.11 protocol to enable communications between the host computer and either another host computer or a network, using the 2.4GHz ISM Radio Band for the communications medium. The host computer uses the adapter for communications in the same way that it would use an Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC). The M3AWEB56GA also has a 56k Modem Wide Area Network using the Telecommunication Lines.
