Technical Document CB520 Wireless Director Call Box Programming and Install Instructions Scope This document covers all the necessary instructions for installing the CB520 Call Box and how to program the call box, using the front panel and the Status LEDs indicators. The CB520 is programmed to work with the Indyme MTS (Messaging and Telephony Server). Additional information regarding this call box can be found in TSN001- Wireless Call Boxes, Indyme part number: 435001-00. Overview The CB520 is a programmable 12 button Director Call Box, which can be programmed to any address between 1 and 988. The Status LEDs are illuminated during programming and various stages of call box operation. The CB520 has five programmable modes. Each mode is identified in this document. Programming Use Buttons 1, 2 and 3 on the front of the call box to program each channel. 1. Put jumper on JP3. JP2 and JP3 S1 2. Press Button 1 for the hundreds value (the TX LED will flash). 3. Press Button 2 for the tens value (the ACTIVE LED will flash). 4. Press Button 3 for the ones value (the ALARM LED will flash). 5. For example: To program the Channel Value to 312: press Button 1 three times, Button 2 once and Button 3 twice. 6. Press Button 12 to SAVE the value. When Button 12 is pressed the TX LED will flash the hundreds digit, the ACTIVE LED will flash the tens digit and the ALARM LED will flash the ones digit. JP1 7. Remove the jumper from JP3. CB520 Programming Instructions 1 P/N 430489-00 Rev D Indyme Electronics, Inc. Programming Mode and House Code. Use Button 1 to select the Mode and use Button 7 to set the House Code. When finished, use Button 12 to SAVE the programmed Mode and House code. 1. Put jumper on JP2.(JP2 is located right next to JP3) 2. Press Button 1 to select which mode. (One press for mode 1, twice for mode 2, three times for mode 3 and four times for mode 4.) 3. Press Button 7 to select which house code set. (One press for house code set 1, press twice for House Code set 2.) 4. Press Button 12 to save the programmed Mode and House Code. The TX LED will flash which mode the CB520 was programmed for and the CLEAR LED will flash which house code set has been selected. 5. Remove the jumper from JP2. Setting the Normally Open / Normally Closed Jumpers 1. To set for normally open remove the jumper from JP4. 2. To set for normally closed put the jumper on JP4. When either of the above is done, the CB520 must be reset by powering down the call box (removing the jumper from JP1) and then powering it back up and pressing S1. Modes of Operation • Mode 1 - Director Call Box with 15 Second Time-out (similar to CB514-3) Press a channel button to trigger alarm state; the TX and ACTIVE LED flash. The ACTIVE LED continues to flashes for approximately 15 seconds, then extinguishes with no reset sent. If the channel button is pressed again within a preset (variable) time the ACTIVE LED will flash for another 15 seconds and the alarm will escalate to the next up-group, depending on the CU4400 programming. • Mode 2 - Variable Response Reset (similar to the CB700A mode 5) An external switch contact transition will trigger a button 12 "alarm state" (contact shared with button 12), the ACTIVE LED flashes; and continues to flash for 300 seconds. Pressing any of the other 11 buttons extinguishes the ACTIVE LED, sends a SET transmission for the pressed channel button and a reset transmission for button 12. • Mode 3 - Director with External Input and Reset Button 1-11 works the same as Mode 1 (normal director function). The external input is enabled and when triggered, sends a shopper call box transmission for button 12. The ALARM LED comes on solid for one second and the ACTIVE LED flashes at a decreased rate (continues to flash for 300 seconds). If the alarm state is removed, the CLEAR LED will come on solid for one second with no reset sent. Pressing button 12 sends a reset transmission for button 12 and extinguishes the ACTIVE LED (if lit). CB520 Programming Instructions 2 P/N 430489-00 Rev D Indyme Electronics, Inc. CB520 Programming Instructions 3 P/N 430489-00 Rev D • Mode 4 - CU3000 Backwards Compatible Mode 4 is basically Mode 1 without Supervisory TX. This mode is backwards compatible with CU3000 systems. **Note: to work with a CU3000, the DAT file will need to be modified. Button mapping is slightly different than the CB500A.** • Mode 5 – Variable Response with Acknowledge An external switch contact transition will trigger a button 12 "alarm state" (contact shared with button 12), the Active LED flashes and continues to flash for 300 seconds. For example: when Button 1 is designated as the Acknowledge Button, pressing Button 1 also acknowledges Button 12, the Active LED flashes at a faster rate and continues to flash for 300 seconds. Buttons 2-11 are designated as Reason Buttons and send a set transmission for the button pressed. This mode must be used with the CB520-ACK script to associate the correct reason code with the original alarm. Installation The CB520 call box arrives with two Velcro strips affixed to the back of the call box. To mount the call box, thoroughly clean the mounting surface with alcohol, removing all dirt from the mounting surface. Remove the tape from the Velcro strips and press the call box firmly into position – typically located near a register or telephone at a checkout counter or service desk. Indyme Customer Service How To Contact Us: The Indyme team of communication systems professionals can assist with every phase of implementing and maintaining your system. Phone Support Phone support is available from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) Monday through Friday. However, emergency support is available 24 hours a day. When doing so, include the Messaging Telephony Server (MTS) serial number, location, and a brief description of the problem. Mail In Equipment Repair Equipment Manufactured by Indyme—All Indyme manufactured equipment carries a one-year warranty. To obtain repair service, call Indyme Customer Service at 1-800-829- 6141, Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Pacific Time). A Return Material Authorization (RMA) number will be issued. Ship the equipment to the Indyme Repair Depot, freight pre-paid. It will be repaired and returned within three business days. This service is provided free of charge for equipment still under warranty or covered by a Maintenance Agreement. Non-Indyme Manufactured Equipment—The procedure for this equipment is the same as stated above, however ten business days must be allowed for repair and return. On-Site Equipment Repair For on-site service, call Indyme Customer Service at 1-800-829-6141, Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Pacific Time). If the source of the problem cannot be identified and corrected over the phone, the Indyme Field Service Coordinator will dispatch a technician. Actual response time may vary, but will not exceed 24 hours for emergency calls, 48 hours for urgent calls, and 72 hours for routine trouble calls. Indyme Electronics, Inc. P/N: 430441-00 Rev E INDYME ELECTRONICS, INC. Limited Warranty Indyme Electronics, Inc. (“Seller”) warrants Indyme-branded products (“Products”) to be free of defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of one year from the date of shipment to the original Buyer. This warrant extends to the original Buyer only and does not extend to any subsequent purchaser of the Products. Seller’s obligation to repair or replace defective Products in accordance with this Warranty shall be Buyer’s sole and exclusive remedy. In the event Seller installs the Products, installation workmanship and materials (e.g., jacks, wire, cables, etc.) are warranted to be defect-free for one year after installation date; defects shall be remedied at no charge. On-site remedy of defective Products is not included in this installation warranty unless Buyer purchased an appropriate installation warranty option. In the event Seller provides equipment not manufactured by Indyme, any original manufacturer warranty applicable to such equipment shall be extended to Buyer. Seller reserves the right to make changes or improvements in its Products without incurring any obligation to similarly alter Products previously purchased. Excluded from this warranty are items normally consumed or which require replacement due to normal wear, or loss or damage to Buyer’s property (other than Products sold by Seller). Seller shall not be responsible or liable for any cost associated with servicing or installation of Products by persons not authorized by Seller. SELLER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR NOR SHALL THIS WARRANTY INCLUDE OR APPLY TO LOSS OR DAMAGE CAUSED BY OR RESULTING FROM THE FOLLOWING: 1) Improper installation of the Products (unless installed by Seller) or the failure to install the Products in strict compliance with specifications provider to Buyer by Seller; 2) Operation of the Products in a manner other than as specified in Seller’s instruction manuals, or in an unsuitable operating environment; 3) Modification, alteration or repair not performed by Seller or by third parties authorized by Seller; 4) Destructive conditions including but not limited to earthquake, flood, inclement weather, lightning, fire, war, sabotage, or malicious mischief; 5) The enforcement of any law or ordinance regulating use of the Products, except for any law or ordinance in effect as of the date of delivery; 6) Abuse, misuse, negligent handling, improper or inadequate maintenance, tampering, accident, or exposure to water or other liquids; 7) Operation on improper voltages, power fluctuations, or power line transients; 8) Radio signal interference including operational difficulties caused by radio signals on or near Products’ operating frequencies. Please provide a photo of the bottom side of the board. 3 Also, please provide complete photos of all components of the device including any keypads, operating controls etc. 4 15.231(a)(1) states, “A manually operated transmitter shall employ a switch that will automatically deactivate the transmitter within not more than 5 seconds of being released.” The manual states that “The ACTIVE LED continues to flashes for approximately 15 seconds..” This indicates that the transmitter continues to operate for more than the 5 seconds after release. If this is the case, the device cannot be granted under 15.231. Please explain the discrepancy between the standards requirement of a 5 second cut off and the 15 seconds in the manual. 5 Please note that transmissions that produce a specific response in a receiver are note considered data. Please verify that transmissions from this device are designed to produce this type of specific response and are not transmitted for any other reason. Response to Some ATCB Comments Comment 1. What is the purpose of this device and where is it expected to be used? Response 1. The CB520 and CB550 are call boxes that are designed for the consumer environment. They incorporate a low-power transmitter to summon assistance at the press of a button. The press of a button initiates a short rf transmission to a receiver and controller which sends audio to speakers: “Assistance requested in the spark plug department.” Another application is to take a poll: “How was your shopping experience? Great, All Right, Not So Good, I’ll Never Be Back.” These call boxes can be used in any larger store where customer service is important. Comment 3. How does the device prevent the successive transmissions of each button from exceeding the maximum transmit time under 15.231? Response 3. The short answer is that the maximum number of buttons that can be pressed (and recognized) is four. After four buttons, any additional buttons are ignored. At almost 1.2 seconds per button message, plus some synchronizing bits, the maximum transmit time is about 4.8 seconds. This is less than the 5 seconds allowed by 15.231. The detailed answer is below. Average bit duration = 6 msec. Bits per word = 20 Synchronization bit / word = 12 msec. Word repetitions per message = 9 Message length = (6 x 20 + 12) x 9 = 1.188 seconds. Four button messages = 4 x 1.188 = 4.752 seconds

It is installed in a nonconductive plastic enclosure with customer specific graphic overlays. When a SET button is pressed, the P (which is in “sleep” mode with the oscillator stopped) starts up, reads the button press, then transmits the approximate 20 bit word, repeated 20 times (about 2.5 seconds of transmit time). One led will blink for the duration of the transmission. The P then resumes the “sleep” mode. The word coding consists of 8 “address” bit as a system address, 8 “ID” bits as a point or channel ID, and 4 “Status” bits to indicate low battery, etc (presently not all bits are used). If multiple set buttons are pressed the unit will transmit a separate set message for each button. Programming is done via the front panel buttons as described in the installation instructions. Modes may be changed during the programming process. The charge pump is turned on before a transmission to keep the output of the transmitter more nearly constant over the lifetime of the battery. The charge pump supplies a constant output voltage over a wide range of input voltages.
