Operational Description

7-Function Wall Station TX, 372.0 and 372.5MHz Product Operation Description This device, a low-power transmitter, consists of an SAW base oscillator at 372.0MHz and 372.5MHz, power supply, and a microcontroller clocked by 4 MHz internal signal. The transmitter is normally off until any button is activated. Any button activation enables the microcontroller, which activates the RF oscillator. The microcontroller generates the data waveform (pulse with modulation, ON/OFF keying) for the RF oscillator. The difference between the buttons is in the data sent. Brunett Research Scientist Summary Tests for compliance with FCC Regulations Part 15, Subpart C, and Industry Canada RSS-210/GEN, were performed on Wayne Dalton Corporation model(s) 3977-3720S, 3977-3725S. This device is subject to the Rules and Regulations as a Transmitter. In testing completed on June 27, 2006, the device tested in the worst case met the allowed FCC specifications for radiated emissions by 3.9 dB (see p. 6). Besides harmonics, there were no other significant spurious emissions found; emissions from digital circuitry were negligible. The conducted emission tests do not apply, since the device is powered from two 1.5 VDC batteries. Introduction Wayne Dalton Corporation models 3977-3720S and 3977-3725S were tested for compliance with FCC Regulations, Part 15, adopted under Docket 87-389, April 18, 1989 as subsequently amended, and with Industry Canada RSS-210/Gen, Issue 6, September 2005. The tests were performed at the University of Michigan Radiation Laboratory Willow Run Test Range following the procedures described in ANSI C63.4-2003 "Methods of Measurement of Radio-Noise Emissions from Low-Voltage Electrical and Electronic Equipment in the Range of 9 kHz to 40 GHz". The Site description and attenuation characteristics of the Open Area Tes Site are on file with FCC Laboratory, Columbia, Maryland (FCC Reg. No: 91050) and with Industry Canada, Ottawa, ON (File Ref. Configuration and Identification of Device Under Test The DUT is a Wayne Dalton seven function transmitter (four buttons, plus selector switch), approximately 4.5 x 3 x 1 inches in size. The DUT was designed and manufactured by Wayne Dalton, 3395 Addison Drive, Pensacola, Florida 32514. It is identified as: Wayne Dalton Transmitter Model: 3977-3720S, 3977-3725S FCC ID: KJ8WST-3720S IC: 3540A-WS3720S 3.2 Models There are two models of the device under test. Model 3977-3720S is tuned to 372.0 MHz and model 3977-3725S is a 372.5 MHz transmitter. The only difference between the two models is the selection of the SAW resonator, which fine-tunes the final carrier frequency. No other electrical differences exist between the two devices. Model 3977-3720S is fully tested herein and the worst case emissions from model 3977-3725S are also reported. 3.3 Modes of Operation: The DUT is actuated by push button, and emits an ASK PWM carrier. Code is micro generated with timing based on a 4 MHz LC clock. Note: The DUT is manually activated and ceases to transmit within 5 seconds of deactivation. See Figure 6.1. 3.4 EMI/EMC Relevant Modifications There were no modifications made to the DUT by this laboratory. 4. Emission Limits The DUT tested falls under the category of an Intentional Radiators and the Digital Devices. For FCC, it is subject to Part 15, Subpart C, (Section 15.231(a-c), 15.209), and Subpart A, (Section 15.33). For Industry Canada it is subject to RSS-210 (Section 2.6 and 2.7). The applicable…
