Your GlobeTrotter Express 7.2 includes Advanced Receiver Technology (ART) bringing the benefit of Receive Diversity and Receive Equalization. These technologies are essential for maximizing the range and speed of HSDPA 3.6/7.2. Backward compatibility ensures HSDPA operation at 1.8 Mbps and UMTS operation at 384 kbps is still possible. For when 3G services are not available in your area the GlobeTrotter Express has in- built support for Quad-band EDGE and GPRS giving speeds up to 247 kbps. Features ¾ Worldwide coverage through triple-band HSDPA/UMTS and quad-band EDGE/GSM ¾ Advanced Receiver Technology incorporating Receiver Diversity and Equalization ¾ Patented Zero-CD Plug ‘n’ Play technology ¾ HSDPA and UMTS High-speed data (up to 7.2 Mbps) connectivity for mobile users ¾ EDGE/GPRS/GSM data (up to 247 kbps) connectivity ¾ Transparent handover between UMTS and GSM/E-GPRS networks ¾ Compatible with nearly all popular notebook PCs equipped with ExpressCard34 slot and Microsoft Windows/Mac OS X operating system ¾ Transparent support for IPSec and VPN technology. System Requirements A computer loaded with an Operating System that is Windows 2000, XP, Vista or Mac OS X and has been fitted with a Cardbus compatible PC-Card interface. Installation and Operation Please refer to the Quick Install Guide for details. Principle of operation To connect to the Internet you need a SIM and an account from your network operator that allows Internet access. Fitting the SIM, inserting the card into your laptop and deploying the antenna is all that is required to get the card working. If the SIM requires a PIN code then the application controlling the datacard will ask for the PIN. The datacard then searches for your GlobeTrotter Express 7.2 User Guide Paul_Hardwick Page 4 1/19/2007 operators network and register on it. You can monitor the status of the datacard by looking at the LEDs. Use the application provided with the card to connect to the Internet. As you change location or the amount of traffic on the network changes you may see that the LED switches between RED and BLUE, this tells you that the card has switched between 2G and 3G technology. This is normal and happens automatically, according to the rules broadcast by the network. Your connection to the Internet should continue but of course the speed of operation will change. To disconnect from the Internet you use the application provided. To remove the card from its slot you should use the safe removal procedure detailed later in this manual. Adjusting the antenna The GlobeTrotter Express 7.2 is equipped with a foldout antenna. For best operation the antenna should be used as shown in this picture: LED Status The LEDs on the datacard provide a lot of information. How they flash will tell you what is going on. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: > Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. > Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver. > Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected. > Consult the dealer or an experienced radio or television technician for help. Modifications The FCC requires the user to be notified that any changes or modifications made to this device that are not expressly approved by Option could void the user's authority to operate the equipment. Declaration of Conformity for products marked with the FCC logo - United States only This device complies with Part 22 and 24 of the FCC rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. For questions regarding your product or FCC declaration, contact: Option | Gaston Geenslaan 14 | 3001 Leuven | Belgium www.option.com To identify this product, refer to the Part, Series, or Model number found on the product. This product has successfully completed the PTCRB requirements governing the release of new GSM 850/1900 capable products into the North American market. Exposure Information to Radio Frequency Energy This PCI Express card has been tested in 3 different notebooks for compliance with the SAR requirements. Measured SAR values according to the CE regulations: The maximum measured body SAR value (averaged over a mass of 10 g and distance between phantom and antenna of 5 mm) is well below the limit of 2 W/kg. Measured SAR values according to the FCC regulations: The maximum measured body SAR value (averaged over a mass of 1 g and distance between phantom and antenna of 5 mm) is well below the limit of 1.6 W/kg. This device contains 900/1800 MHz GSM/EDGE and 2100Mhz WCDMA functions that are not operational in U.S. Territories. For safe and efficient use the user should keep the antenna of the card at a minimum distance of 1 cm away from his body. All of the measurements above were performed at a distance of 0.5 cm from the body of the user. CAUTION: Users concerned with the risk of Radio Frequency exposure may wish to limit the duration of their calls and to position the antenna as far away from the body as is practical. European Union declaration of conformity CE 0681 Products bearing the CE marking comply with the R&TTE Directive (99/5/EC), EMC Directive (89/336/EEC) and the Low Voltage Directive (73/23/EEC) issued by the Commission of the European Community. The complexity of the technical specifications, however, means that full and thorough testing is impractical for both technical and economic reasons. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that a test sample which has passed all the relevant tests conforms to a specification. The existence of the tests nevertheless provides the confidence that the test sample possesses the qualities as maintained and that is performance generally conforms to representative cases of communications equipment. Power listed is ERP for part 22 and EIRP for part 24. This device contains functions that are not operational in U.S Territories. This filing is only applicable for US operations. This device and its antenna must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter. This device contains GPRS (Class 12) functionalities. SAR compliance has been established in 3 laptop computer configurations with side PCMCIA slot configurations only. This device should only to be used in laptop computers with substantially similar physical dimensions, construction, and electrical and RF characteristics using side mounted PCMCIA slots only. End users must be informed of the requirements for satisfying RF Exposure compliance. The highest SAR value for this device as reported to the FCC is: 1.30 W/kg (GSM 850 MHz) and 1.27 W/kg (GSM 1900 MHz), 1.45 W/kg (EDGE 850 MHz) and 1.43 W/kg (EDGE 1900 MHz), 1.10 W/kg (WCDMA V) and 1.53 W/kg (WCDMA II).
