IC Class B compliance This device complies with the Class B limits for radio noise emissions as set out in the interference-causing equipment standard entitled “Digital Apparatus”, ICES-003 of Industry Canada 5 Important safety information Remember to follow any special regulations governing the use of the MIST FREEDOM II-C and always switch it off in areas where radio devices are forbidden, or when it may cause interference or danger. Any safety laws and regulations pertaining to the use of cell phones and two-way radios will likely apply to your use of the POS. We encourage you to follow such laws and regulations at all times. In particular, please observe all restrictions on the use of radio equipment in fuel depots (fuel storage and distribution areas), chemical plants, where blasting operations are in progress or in any other area in which restrictions on radio transmissions are imposed. The MIST FREEDOM II-C is not an FAA-approved electronic device for use on aircraft. Switch off the POS when in an aircraft. The effect of the use of the POS in an aircraft is unknown. Such use may affect aircraft instrumentation, communication and performance, may disrupt the network, and may be illegal. Operation of any radio transmitting equipment, including the POS, may interfere with the functionality of inadequately protected medical devices, including pacemakers. Consult a physician or the manufacturer of the medical device if you have any questions. Additionally, the effect of the radio signals from the POS on other electronic systems, including those in your car (such as electronic fuel-injection systems, electronic anti-skid braking systems, and electronic cruise-control systems) is unknown and malfunction of these systems may result. Avoid using the POS in any environment requiring your full attention, such as when driving a vehicle. Do not use any accessory that is not manufactured or supplied by MIST or an authorized MIST accessories supplier. Use of any accessory that is not supplied or approved for use by MIST is not 6 permitted. Use only those battery types specified in this User’s Guide. Equipment:Wireless Point of Sale Terminal Model:MIST Freedom II-C using a Novatel NRM-6832 Expedite Wireless IP Modem (CDPD Network) Standard:FCC 96 –326, Guidelines for Evaluating the Environmental Effects of Radio- Frequency Radiation ENGINEERING SUMMARY This report contains the results of the engineering evaluation performed on a MIST Freedom II-C Point of Sale Terminal operating with a built in Novatel NRM-6832 Expedite wireless IP modem (CDPD Network). The measurements were carried out in accordance with FCC 96-326. The Point of Sale Terminal was evaluated at its maximum nominal power level, 600mW (28 dBm). The MIST Freedom II-C was tested at high, middle, and low frequencies on the keyboard, battery, and both sides of the device, with the antenna extended and retracted. The maximum SAR was found to coincide with the peak performance RF output power of channel 991 (low, 824 MHz) for front side up position with the antenna extended. Test data and graphs are presented in this report. Based on the test results and on how the device will be used, it is certified that the product meets the requirements as set forth in the above specifications, for an uncontrolled RF exposure environment for extremities (hand). The manual for this unit will require a warning to keep the base of the antenna at least 33 mm away from any part of the body other than the extremities of either users or bystanders. INTRODUCTION Tests were conducted to determine the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of a sample of a MIST Freedom II-C Point of Sale Terminal, which incorporates a Novatel NRM- 6832 Expedite Wireless IP radio modem. These tests were conducted at APREL Laboratories’ facility located at 51 Spectrum Way, Nepean, Ontario, Canada. A view of the SAR measurement setup can be seen in Appendix A Figure 1. That is why we call it the “maximum nominal power level”. The 398mW conducted power reported in other parts of the submission was measured prior to the ERP measurement and was obtained by partially disassembling the device and attaching the adapter cable shown in the following figure directly to the modem’s RF output. It was not feasible to perform this measurement before and after each SAR scan so relative radiated power measurements were performed instead. We no longer carry out this conducted power measurement on devices which do not have an easily accessible RF feedpoint. Test Facility The tests were performed for MIST Inc. by APREL Laboratories at APREL’s EMI facility located in Nepean, Ontario, Canada. The laboratory operates an (3m and 10m) Open Area Test Site (OATS). The measurement facility is calibrated in accordance with ANSI C63.4-1992. A description of the measurement facility in accordance with the radiated and AC line conducted test site criteria per ANSI C63.4-1992 is on file with the Federal Communications Commission and is in compliance with the requirements of Section 2.948 of the Commissions rules and regulations. APREL’s registration number is 90416 APREL is accredited by Standard Council of Canada, under PALCAN program (ISO Guide 25). APREL is also accredited by Industry Canada (formerly DOC) and recognised by the Federal Communications Commissions (FCC). Standard The evaluation and analysis were conducted in accordance with FCC Rules and Regulations Parts 2.1046 and the appropriate limits.
