Wireless technology opens many new possiblities for personal mobile devices. Wireless e-mail, LAN/WAN internet access, faxes, file transfers, and Palm HotSyncs are just a few examples of what can be done using this new cable-free standard. The 3Com Bluetooth Device is configured using 3Com Bluetooth Connection Manager (see 3Com Bluetooth Connection Manager). Connection Manager is used for configuring the 3Com Bluetooth Device and viewing other Bluetooth devices. It must be running to use the 3Com Bluetooth Device. Connection Manager is installed automatically (see Installing Your 3Com Bluetooth Device) and is loaded at Windows startup. It remains minimized as a system tray icon until you double-click the icon. Once you open Connection Manager you can configure your 3Com Bluetooth Device and connect to other Bluetooth devices. See § 1.1307(b)(1) and 2.1093 of this chapter. All equipment shall be considered to operate in a “general population/uncontrolled” environment. Applications for equipment authorization of devices operating under this section must contain a statement confirming compliance with these requirements for both fundamental emissions and unwanted emissions. Technical information showing the basis for this statement must be submitted to the Commission upon request. Demonstration of Compliance: The 3CRWB60 is classified as a portable device, which is designed so that a minimum separation distance of 2.5 centimeters is maintained between the transmitter’s radiating structure and the body of the user or nearby persons, and it does not operate in the one of the services listed in § 2.1093(c). Therefore, the 3CRWB60 is categorically excluded from routine environmental evaluation for RF exposure as per § 2.1093(c). The user’s manual contains a warning statement that instructs the user that the 2.5 centimeter separation distance must be maintained in order to comply with the RF exposure requirement. Sample of RF Exposure Statement: CAUTION FCC Radio-Frequency Exposure Notice This device generates and radiates radio-frequency energy. In order to comply with FCC radio-frequency radiation exposure guidelines for an uncontrolled environment, this equipment has to be installed and operated while maintaining a minimum body to antenna distance of 2.5 cm.

The 13 second time frame shows the number of blocks of activity on a channel. The 100ms plot shows the number of multiple transmissions in one block. The 300us plot shows the time period of one transmission. From these plots it is easy to derive that the dwell time is within the FCC requirements.
