Installation and User Instructions for S822 Encoders 1 Cable Connection The S822 encoder is used to encode blank HID ismart cards to the "smartMAX" format, or to re- encode existing "smartMAX" format icards. CLASS CLASS TM® Insert the jack plug into the box on the end of the encoder cable. Insert the power plug into . the box on the end of the encoder cable Connect the 12Vdc power source to the mains supply. Connect this RS232-to- RS485 converter to a serial port of a PC installed with the SMS software. Set up the port in the Install/Client Ports screen of the SMS software. 9600-0395.Installation and User Instructions for S822 Encoders, Issue 1.0 28th April 2004.Group 4 Technology, 2004. Input current: 260mA @ nominal 12Vdc supply. Operating temperature: -13 to 158 F (-25 to 70 C). Operating humidity: 15 to 90%, non-condensing. Maximum encoding range: 1" (25mm). Approvals: EN50133, R&TTE, IP656. For internal use only. °° 2 Encoding Procedure To encode a card: 1. Log in to the SMS software at the PC that the encoder is connected to. 2. Start the encoding procedure from the appropriate screen in the SMS software. For example, if you are using a standard client, use thebutton in. 3. Encodethe Card Holders screen When prompted, present the card to the encoder. You will hear a "bleep" when the card has been encoded. - Lit when power is supplied to the encoder. - Lit when the encoder has received data. Beeps once when the card has been encoded successfully.
