Installation and User Instructions for S823 Readers 1 Mount the Backplate To mount the backplate: 1) Remove the two screws taped to the inside of the backplate. 2) Mount the backplate adjacent to the opening edge of the door and at a convenient height. Feed the cable to the reader through the backplate. 3) Use the screws removed in step 1 to secure the backplate to the main body of the reader (see opposite). The backplate has suitable holes for connection to most standard electrical backboxes. Screws to attach backplate to reader The S823 is a contactless smart-card reader, which uses p. The S823 is able to read Philips MIFARE and Philips MIFARE DESfire smart cards. For either type of card, the S823 supports the use of unencoded cards (where only the unique card serial number is read), or cards encoded with a card number. Several encoding formats are supported. The reader can simultaneously support two different card types/formats (e.g. non-encoded MIFARE and smartMAX- encoded MIFARE DESfire, or non-encoded MIFARE and smartMAX-encoded MIFARE). The reader is automatically configured to accept the first two card types/formats presented. 20mA current loop seudo-random communications ®® 9600-0407.Installation and User Instructions for S823 Readers, Issue 1.0 24th January 2005.AMAG Technology, 2005. The maximum read range is typically 0.4" (10mm). If the green indicator is lit, the card has been accepted and the door is unlocked. If the red indicator is lit, either the card has not been accepted, or you do not have access through the door. cards can be presented in rapid succession - there is no need to wait for the green or red LED to extinguish before presenting another card. If the red and green indicators flash alternatively, please wait. Note: Specifications Input: 130mA max @ 10.6-12.7Vdc. Operating temperature: -13 to 158 F (-25 to 70 C). Operating humidity: 15 to 90%, non-condensing. Maximum read range: 0.4" (10mm). Approvals: EN50133, R&TTE, IP656. °° If the reader needs to read both MIFARE and MIFARE DESfire cards, make sure that one of each card is presented to the reader immediately after the reader has been installed and the cards have been encoded in the Admin/Card Holders screen of the SMS software. The reader supports the first two card formats presented. If the two cards are the same type, only one format is supported. 3 Reader Configuration
