Users Manual

Mount the backplate using countersunk headed screws adjacent to the opening edge of the door and at a convenient height (recommended height is 5' (1.5m) to top of unit). If fixing hole ’A’ is used then the breakout must be removed and the screw must not protrude. Feed the cable from the controller through the backplate. If the wall tamper function is to be used then the small hole in breakout ‘B’ may be used to mark the position of the wall screw before the breakout is removed. An appropriate wall screw should then be adjusted in height to protrude through the hole to activate the tamper lever. 2 1 Mount the Backplate Reader Connections The S874 is a reader can be set to use Wiegand or The S874 reader will read smartMAX encoded MIFARE cards and card serial numbers from most ISO 14443A smart cards which have a 4-byte UID (User Identification). The reader may be configured to read other card types by presenting a programming card to the reader during start up. February 8 th 2013 Dear Sir, As requested I am writing to confirm that in February 2012 TRaC’s RF test laboratory was supplied with a sample of a S874 MiFare Wallplate Card Reader. The laboratory tested this sample and produced a test report TES-00437701-WUS1. This report was then used as part for the certification process and subsequent issue off FCC grant. During an FCC surveillance the test laboratory found a difference between the original results taken and the surveillance sample. The applicant then checked their records and found that they had not sent the final production sample to the laboratory. They have issued an attestation to this effect. TRaC then fully tested a final production sample found it to be compliant and have produced test report TRA-008148-CO029-W-US-2. This test report supersedes test report TES-00437701-WUS1. . Operational Description

S874 READER TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION The S874 Smart Card Reader’s intended purpose is to read identification codes programmed into a range of passive contactless Smart cards, accept PINs through a keypad and display a response on one of three banks of LEDs. The maximum read range is about 4”. The unit is intended to be connected by cable to a range of Access Control Controllers which provide the necessary power and control/interface signals. The circuitry is contained on a single PCB which is mounted in a plastic enclosure (112mm x 85mm x 20mm approx). The cable from the terminal block exits through a large hole in the back of the unit. The power supply is a nominal 12V DC and linear regulators are used to provide 5V and 3V3 internal supply rails. The antenna is a printed coil that emits a 13.56MHz magnetic field. The field ‘powers up’ a Smart card which is brought into the vicinity of the antenna. When powered this operates as a field disturbance device allowing two-way communication to take place between the reader and the card. The field is switched on continuously and modulation of the field is carried out by a dedicated device which is manufactured by NXP for the purpose. The control processor handles communications between the reader and the controller, responding to commands received and passing card data and status information back to the controller. The control processor also carries out housekeeping tasks such as scanning the keypad and monitoring the tamper switch.
