Component Specifications/Descriptions Versus Technology “Infant Badge” model number VER-1900 and “DataBand” model number VER-1800 are an infrared transmitting badge with a RF supervisory signal. The DataBand is an adult version of the infant badge in that the only difference between the two badges is the type of the band that attaches to the person, with no modifications to the electronics. These badges are just two products used in the Versus Information Systems (VIS) to provide for quick and easy way to locate people and equipment. The badges are a low power long lasting IR/RF transmitter that incorporate a three-volt lithium battery in the case along with PCB boards for IR/RF circuitry and alarm (PAS) circuitry and a PCB antenna. Both infrared and RF signals are independent of each other which contain recognition code to identify the badge that is transmitting, along with motion status, battery status, and switch information. The RF signal is transmitted per FCC “Code of Federal Regulations” Title 47, Part 15 Subpart C, Sections 15.231 et seq. When an alarm is activated the badge transmits a different code that identifies that an alarm has occurred along with the badges recognition code. There are two ways that the badge can be set in an alarm state; 1.) The first type of alarm is when a band on the badge is cut, this alarm will continue to transmit until the proper personnel deactivate the badge. 2.) The second type of alarm is a proximity alarm, when the badge enters a restricted area an alarm input is set. Upon exiting the restricted area the badge alarm input is cleared and RF transmissions are ceased.

Operational Description

Description of the VER-1900 Badge The VER-1900 Infant Badge contains a low power RF transmitter chip which is controlled by an ASIC. The frequency synthesizer for generation of the RF output carrier is received from a low frequency external crystal. An output clock from the RF chip runs the ASIC device, when an RF transmission needs to be generated the data is sent to the RF chip. The modulation used by the radio frequency chip is on/off key at 433.9MHz. The ground plane for the RF signal is contained in one of the four layers of the printed circuit board. The RF antenna is a PCB loop antenna, which is attached to the RF PCB by wires. Versus Technology Inc. “Infant Badge” model number VER-1900 is an infrared transmitting badge with a RF supervisory signal. Engineering Test Report No. 05252000 Page____4____of__23______ Measurement of RF Interference from A Model VER-1900 Infant Badge Transmitter 1.0 Introduction: 1.1 Description of Test Item: On May 25, 2000, a series of radio interference measurements were performed on a model VER-1900 Infant Badge Transmitter, (hereinafter referred to as the test item) serial number 240. The test item was designed to transmit at approximately 433.0 MHz using an internal PCB antenna. The tests were performed for Versus Technology, Inc. of Traverse City, Michigan. 1.2 Purpose: The test series was performed to determine if the test item meets the radiated RF emission requirements of the FCC “Code of Federal Regulations” Title 47, Part 15, Subpart C, Sections for Intentional Radiators. Testing was performed in accordance with ANSI C63.4-1992. 1.3 Deviations, Additions and Exclusions: There were no deviations, additions to, or exclusions from the test specification during this test series. 1.4 Applicable Documents: The following documents of the exact issue designated form part of this document to the extent specified herein: - Federal Communications Commission “Code of Federal Regulations”, Title 47, Part 15, Subpart C, dated 1 October 1997 - ANSI C63.4-1992, “American National Standard for methods of measurement of Radio- Noise Emissions from Low-Voltage Electrical and Electronic Equipment in the Range of 9 kHz to 40 GHz” 1.5 Subcontractor Identification: This series of tests was performed by the Elite Electronic Engineering Company, of Downers Grove, Illinois. The laboratory is accredited by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) under the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP). NVLAP Lab Code: 100278-0. Engineering Test Report No. 05252000 Page____5____of__23______ 1.6 Laboratory Conditions: The temperature at the time of the test was 20°C and the relative humidity was 25%. 2.0 Test Item Setup and Operation: 2.1 Power Input: The test item received 3.0 VDC from internal battery. 2.2 Grounding: Since the test item was powered with 3.0 VDC through a battery, it was ungrounded during the tests. 2.3 Peripheral Equipment: There was no peripheral equipment. 2.4 Interconnect Cables: There were no interconnect cables. 2.5 Operational Mode: For all tests the test item was energized and placed on a 80cm high non- conductive stand. For all tests, the test item’s alarm button was shorted, thereby setting the unit to transmit continuously. The transmitting mechanism automatically deactivated when released. The battery voltage was periodically checked to ensure proper operation at maximum level. The tests were performed with the test item operating at 4.330MHz. 3.0 Test Equipment: 3.1 Test Equipment List: A list of the test equipment used can be found on Table I page 18. All equipment was calibrated per the instruction manuals supplied by the manufacturer. The fundamental, harmonics and spurious emissions were measured with an HP 8566B spectrum analyzer. The spectrum analyzer peak-detected readings were converted to average readings using a duty cycle factor. All measurements were taken with the resolution and video bandwidth of the measuring instrument adjusted to 100kHz below 1GHz and 1MHz above 1GHz.
