Features such as high linearity power amplifiers are contributing for the overall improved system linearity performances. The unit is based on a duplexed path configuration, having sharp out of band attenuation for improved isolation between the receiving and transmitting paths. BLOCK DIAGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Repeater Downlink path receives the RF signals from base station, amplifies them and transmits them to the subscriber. The Repeater Uplink path receives the RF signals from the subscriber, amplifies them and transmits them to the base station. Two duplexers frequency separate the signals to the proper amplifying path and isolate the two signals. For each path two amplifiers do the path signal amplification; a low noise amplifier (LNA) and a high power amplifier. The low noise amplifier has a 30 dB step attenuator to set the gain of the specific path. REPEATER (BDA) CONNECTION The RF connection is made via two type “N” female connectors. The RF connector labeled “Base” must be connected to the antenna pointing to the base station; usually a rooftop antenna. The RF connection labeled “Mobile” must be connected to the antenna pointing into the area to be covered by the Repeater such as inside a building or outdoor shaded area. If the Repeater gain were higher than the isolation between the antennas, oscillation would start and would saturate the amplifier. Isolation few dB higher than the Repeater gain cannot start oscillations but would cause gain ripple in the band. The step attenuator on the low noise amplifier reduces the Repeater gain. The Repeater gain can be stepped down by the amount indicated on the step attenuator. AGC FUNCTION The Repeater has AGC function on both paths that serve to prevent the saturation of the power amplifier. When a high signal is received the AGC circuit detects the amplitude and sends a feedback signal to a variable attenuator, which attenuates the signal level so that the output power of the amplifier does not exceed the preset limit. The green LED on the BDA monitor (AGC Range) illuminates when the power output of the amplifier is within the set limit. An On/Off switch on the connection box enables the AGC function. If the AGC is disabled then the amplifier gives maximum gain. WARNING: For proper operation the AGC switch must be ON to prevent excessive spurious. American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 August 28, 2003 RE: Dekolink Wireless Ltd. FCC ID: OIWBDAESMR50W90 After a review of the submitted information, I have a few comments on the above referenced Application. 1) The FRN Number provided (0009032668) appears to be invalid from checking on the FCC website. Please provide a correct FRN number for Dekolink Wireless Ltd. 2) Clear Top and Bottom Photographs are required for all components in the RF path (Uplink/Downlink Amplifiers, Uplink/Downlink Preamplifiers, diplexers, AGC circuits, etc.). Please provide. 3) Due to the fonts style uses on the label, the letter "S" and Number "5" can not be distinguished. Please provide an updated label that utilizes a different font. 4) Are the amplifiers, preamps, AGC circuits, diplexers designed and/or built by Dekolink? If so, please provide parts lists for all components in the RF path. Otherwise, please provide a parts list that shows the vendor of these parts (amplifiers, preamps, diplexers, etc). 5) It appears that the schematics provided are only for the uplink path. Please also provide schematics for the downlink path. 6) Please provide a Tune up procedure over power range. 7) Note: FYI, because this is a licensed device, RF exposure issues are addressed at the time of licensing for the end user of this device. Therefore the RF exposure exhibit has not been evaluated. It is suggested that the RF exposure section also be removed from the test report. 8) This device contains AGC circuitry. Please explain the derivation of the input drive level provided into the EUT in order to obtain the maximum power output. 9) Since the device contains AGC circuitry, please provide data/tables showing the measured output power vs. input level from the lowest expected input to the maximum rated input power allowed (approx -51 dBm to +10 dBm, etc.) 10) The operational description appears to state the amplifier has 45 dB of gain. However in table 1 of the test report, it appears that the gain between input and output is > 60 dB. Please explain. 11) The maximum output rating for the downlink in the test report is 8.3 Watts. The operational description states a 10 Watt rating. Note that the FCC expects the unit to be adjusted for worse case conditions expected while following the tune up procedure performed by the factory. The worse case condition will be shown on the grant and it is expected all manufactured units will be equal to or less than this value. Please verify the worse case output power and if necessary have the manufacture adjust for worse case conditions following their tune up procedures and remeasure. 12) Please comment on if this device is designed for single carrier or multi-carrier use. Has the output power been checked for multi-carrier conditions? 13) Please comment on if the input signals supplied to the unit are considered a typical expected input signal (level and modulation). Additionally, please provide a list of expected modulations for use with this device (731 form listed D7W). Note that certain tests must be performed for all expected modulation types. 14) Please provide justification for the use of D7W emissions. -- Continued on Next Page -- z Page 2August 28, 2003 15) Radiated spurious emissions are not necessary to be performed for 3 carriers but instead with a narrow band CW signal. Note that a single channel creates a higher power level which usually creates higher level spurious emissions. Please provide additional radiated spurious emissions for a single carrier configuration. For future applications it is necessary to only perform this test using the single carrier method. 16) FYI...Testing for this type of device is required to provide a comparison of bandwidth of the input to the output signal generated as shown in section 4.2 of the report. Note that because the device does not generate the actual TX signal, testing to inband (806-821, 851-866) emissions masks is not necessary. 17) FYI...An easy way to deal with limits for antenna conducted is that 43 + 10 log (P) equals a limit of -13 dBm Timothy R. REPEATER (BDA) CONNECTION: The RF connection is made via two type “N” female connectors. The RF connector labeled “Base” is connected to the antenna pointing to the base station, usually a rooftop antenna; this is a directional antenna such as Yagi or Dish antenna of 14 to 18 dBi gain. This antenna is pointed to the base station to get maximum input power. The RF connection labeled “Mobile” must be connected to the antenna pointing into the area to be covered by the Repeater. The remote antenna is usually a directional antenna designated for the coverage requirements. The step attenuator is used to reduce the Repeater gain when needed, usually to set proper output power . For proper operation of the Repeater, the isolation between the base station antenna and the mobile antenna should exceed the Repeater gain by at least 12 dB. If the Repeater gain were higher than the isolation between the antennas, oscillation would start and would saturate the amplifier. In this case the repeater’s gain is reduced to the required level. Downlink power amplifier: This is a 50W 1dB compression amplifier operated at 10W composite output power. The power is limited by AGC mechanism to keep system performance. The amplifier uses 28VDC, 4AMP. Typ. Uplink power amplifier: This is a 16W 1dB compression amplifier operated up to 1W composite output power. The power is limited by AGC mechanism to keep system performance. The amplifier uses 28VDC, 1.7 AMP. Typ. AGC FUNCTION The Repeater has AGC function on both paths that serve to prev…
