Repeater overview Dekolink’s repeater assembly provides an exceptional capability to extend the coverage area of radio communications into building areas and RF shielded environments. The unit’s integrated high linearity power amplifiers contribute to the overall improved system performance while avoiding non-linear related phenomena. The unit is based on a duplexed path configuration, having sharp out of band attenuation for improved isolation between the receiving and transmitting paths. 2. Block diagram description Within the repeater, the downlink path receives RF signals from base station (donor side) amplifies them and re-transmits them to the subscribers (service area). The repeater uplink path receives RF signals from the service side, amplifies them and retransmits them towards the donating base station. On both the repeaters’ ends, cavity tuned duplexers separate the Tx and Rx signals (frequency separation) and diverts them to the amplifying path while providing the required signal isolation. Two amplifiers are used to perform the required amplification for each of the paths; a Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) and a high power amplifier. Each of the LNAs includes an internal step attenuator that allows adjusting the gain of the relevant path to the required level depending on the specific field situation. Step attenuator and RF gain setting For proper operation and in order to avoid oscillations, Dekolink’s suggestion is to have an isolation value between the base station antenna (donor side) and the mobile antenna (service side) that exceeds the repeaters’ set gain by 12dB. A step attenuator integrated in the LNA can be adjusted to change the repeaters’ gain in 1dB steps, within a range of 31dB. Adjustment is done via SW. 2.2. Automatic Level (gain) Control (ALC) functionality In order to prevent saturation of the power amplifiers, the repeater is equipped with ALC circuits on both its paths. The step attenuator is used to reduce the Repeater gain when needed, usually to set proper output power. Both Uplink and downlink LNA’s are the same except for a ceramic filter that is tuned to the proper band (uplink / downlink). I n the downlink path the LNA consists off AGC circuitry. The TX detected video output is fed to this amplifier. This AGC limits the power transmitted by the TX amplifier even when AGC is turned off. Response to TCB Findings 1. The composite power output rating in the "RF Components Description" file is 1W, but the measurements show a power output of 27dBm and manual also shows 27dBm rating. Has the input drive level and gain setting been maximized? Please clarify. [Ruby Dulmage] The composite power is up to 1W, we use only 0.5W for safety margin 2. Please clarify if all the components required to achieve the "D" and "F" block frequencies reside in a single enclosure as seen in external photo. Are these different transmitters in separate enclosures? [Ruby Dulmage] For each block there is one product that is used independently. The RF active components are the same, the mechanical structure and electrical wiring are the same, the difference is only in the duplexers' frequency response. 3. Please specify the label material. [Ruby Dulmage] The label material is nylon. 4. Please supply up-link and down-link MPE calculations. [Ruby Dulmage] MPE calculations supplied for uplink and downlink. 5. Please specify the DC voltages and currents in final RF amplifier stage. [Ruby Dulmage] DC parameters are listed in RF components description document . DC voltage is 28V, DC current is 4A for downlink AMP and 1.4A for uplink AMP. 6.
