862-01545 μ Link System Manual Issue 1 Page 26.1 Outdoor Unit Power Levels Follow these steps to set the transmitted power level onthe OU. Refer to table 4 for transmitted power levels. Step Action 1. Determine the gain of the antenna, A T , to be installed with the OU. 2. Calculate the transmitted power, P T , according to the following formula:P T = 30dBm – (A T – 6)/3 dBm 3. Determine the power level to be used in NMSby consulting table 4. 4. Install a fixed attenuator between the OU andthe antenna if the power level can not besufficiently reduced. 5. Set the transmitted power level in NMS. 6. Repeat for both stations. Example: Determining the transmitted power level. Step Action 1. Install a 24dBi antenna. 2. PO Box 370 849 SR 45 Newberry, Florida 32669 Ph. 352.472.5500 Fax. 352.331.8840 [email protected] 10/27/99 TO: JOE DICHOSO FCC Subject: TELLUMAT FCCID: ONJMDR2400-EHD REFERENCE: EA94985 Due to my over sight of the of the 24dBi gain antenna the applicant supplied me with a modified unit that only has a power output of 0.22Watts and a frequency range of 2400 to 2455MHz. 1. In order to comply with the 250milliWatt limit with the 24dBi antenna gain the power output was changed and the UUT remeasured. The power measured 0.220Watts. This is a request for you to correct the 731 form. 2. The power output limit with the 24dBi antenna is 0.250Watts, and for the 17dBi antenna would be 0.4Watts but since the transmitter is the same they supplied a 0.22Watts Unit, sorry I over looked this. 3. The original radiated measurements were made with a video bandwidth of 300kHz, NOT 10Hz as stated in my report. Attached are new measurements that were made with 1.0MHz RBW = VBW. 4. The field strength of the starting edge of the restricted band is included in the radiated measurements. I will include this measurement in all future reports. Thanks for your help. The actual output when set to level 5 is not exactly 250mW; in this case it was 220mW. The 17 dbi Yagi was tested at 26dbm (level 7). Both of these power levels are in accordance with FCC rules 15.247(b)(1) and 15.247 (b)(3)(i). Page 59 of the manual has been corrected. 200 mW is incorrect. Please change that. The transmitter should be granted 26dbm maximum output power (as used with the 17 dbi Yagi). (b) This has been changed in the manual. (c This has been changed in the manual. Calculation of Safe Distance for Radiofrequency Radiation Exposure Limits The Limits for Maximum Permissible Exposure to Radiofrequency Radiation are set out in FCC Document 47 CFR Ch. I paragraph 1.1310. The limits for uncontrolled exposure are 1 mW/cm 2 The distance from an antenna resulting in a power density of greater than 1 mW/cm 2 , can be calculated from the equation: S=EIRP / 4π R 2 Or R=√EIRP / 4πS Where:S is the power density in mW/cm 2 R is the distance from the center of the antenna in cm EIRP is the equivalent isotropically radiated power ( P tx x G antenna ) For a 24dBi gain parabolic antenna, and a transmit power of 24dBm, the EIRP is 48dBm, or 6.3E4 mW R= √EIRP / 4πS = √6.3E4 / 4π = 71cm We therefore recommend that an installer stay 1meter (100cm or 3.5ft) from the antenna while it is transmitting. We also recommend that the antenna be installed such that it is at least 1m away from any easily accessible public location.

Shielded interface cables were used in all cases except for cables connecting to the telephone line and the power cords. A test program was run which simulated a normal data transmission on a network. POWER LINE CONDUCTED INTERFERENCE: The procedure used was ANSI STAN- DARD C63.4-1992 using a 50uH LISN. Both lines were observed. The bandwidth of the spectrum analyzer was 10kHz with an appro- priate sweep speed. The ambient temperature of the UUT was 76oF with a humidity of 55%. BANDWIDTH 6.0dB: The measurements were made withe the spectrum analyz- er's resolution bandwidth(RBW)=100KHz and the video bandwidth(VBW) =300KHz and the span set as shown on plot. POWER OUTPUT: The RF power output was measured at the antenna feed point using a peak power meter. ANTENNA CONDUCTED EMISSIONS: The RBW=100KHz, VBW=300KHz and the span set to 100MHz and the spectrum was scanned from 30MHz to the 10th Harmonic of the fundamental. RADIATION INTERFERENCE: The test procedure used was ANSI STANDARD C63.4-1992 using a HEWLETT PACKARD spectrum analyzer with a prese- lector. The bandwidth(RBW) of the spectrum analyzer was 100kHz up to 1GHz and 1.0MHz above 1GHz with an appropriate sweep speed. The VBW above 1.0GHz was = 10Hz.
