FCC ID: OU4-WS920 Page 2 of 2 THEORY of OPERATON Core Technology Wireless Speakers Transmitter Model Number WS920 The Wireless Speakers Transmitter, Model Number WS920, is a simple FM transmitter, which provides a wireless connection for speakers to the audio source, such as a stereo, radio or other source. It transmits a maximum of 1 mW using Synchronized RF modulation. The Left and Right speaker inputs are feed to a switch, which is gated by a Sync. Generator, operating at 58 kHz. The combined input, with synchronization pulses are then sent to a 900MHz Phase Lock Loop. The output of the PLL is sent to the MMIC RF Amp. An 1100 MHz Low Pass Filter removed higher order harmonics and other noise before the transmitting antenna receives the output signal.

FCC ID: OU4-WS920 Page 2 of 2 The Wireless Speakers Transmitter operates under Part 15 and is classified as a “Mobile Device” by the guidance given in 47 CFR 2.1091 and OET Bulletin 65, which states: “Transmitting devices designed to be used by consumers or workers that can be easily re-located, such as wireless devices associated with a personal computer and transportable cellular telephones (“bag” phones), are considered to be mobile devices if they meet the 20 centimeter separation requirement.” The Wireless Speakers Transmitter meets this description including the requirement that it be used more than 20 centimeters from the user. “...are subject to routine environmental evaluation for RF exposure use if they operate at frequencies of 1.5 GHz or below and their effective radiated power (ERP) is 1.5 watts or more,...” The Wireless Speakers Transmitter has a typical output power of 0 dBm or 1 mW. The peak, measured power in the fundamental was 100.4 dB (uV/m). Using the formula: P = .3 V 2 The measured power is 0.329 mW in the fundamental. This measurement is clearly well below the requirement. Therefore, a routine environmental evaluation for RF exposure is not required.

Specific test requirements for this device include the following: 47 CFR 15.249 Fundamental Transmit Power 47 CFR 15.249 Spurious Radiated Power 15.205 & 15.209 47 CFR 15.231 Occupied Bandwidth 47 CFR 15.203 Antenna Requirement 47 CFR 15.207 Conducted Emissions The system tested consisted of the following: Manufacturer & Model FCC ID # Description Core Technology OU4-WS920 Wireless Speaker Transmitter 1.1. EUT Operation The Wireless Speakers Transmitter was tested with the wireless link active and fully modulated. Setup and operational modes cover worst case configuration and operational modes for the device. 2. Radiated Emissions Testing Professional Testing (EMI), Inc. (PTI), follows the guidelines of NIST for all uncertainty calculations, estimates and expressions thereof for EMC testing. Radiated emission measurements were made of the Fundamental and Spurious Emission and Conducted Emissions levels for the Wireless Speakers Transmitter. Measurements of the occupied bandwidth were also made for the equipment. Measurements of the maximum emission levels for the fundamental and the spurious/harmonic emissions of the Wireless Speakers Transmitter were made at the Professional Testing "Open Field" Site 3, located in Round Rock, Texas to determine the radio noise radiated from the EUT. A “Description of Measurement Facilities” has been submitted to the FCC and approved pursuant to Section 2.948 of CFR 47 of the FCC rules. Tests of the fundamental for the device were performed to determine the worst case polarization of the devices. The fundamental emissions of the device were Professional Testing (EMI), Inc. FCC ID: OU4-WS920 Page 4 of 18 measured with the antennas of the devices vertical and horizontal to the ground plane. 2.1. Test Procedure The EUT was placed on a non-conductive table 0.8 meters above the ground plane. The table was centered on a motorized turntable which allows 360 degree rotation. For measurements of the fundamental signal, a measurement antenna was positioned at a distance of 3 meters as measured from the closest point of the EUT. For spurious/harmonic measurements above 1GHz, the measurement antenna was placed 1 meter from the EUT. The radiated emissions were maximized by configuring the EUT, by rotating the EUT, and by raising and lowering the antenna from 1 to 4 meters. A…
