Dual-Band Wireless A+G Broadband Router 5GHz, 802.11a (WEP)The 5GHz, 802.11a (WEP) screen, shown in Figure 7-9, allows you to config- ure your 5GHz,802.11a WEPsettings. WEPencryptionshould alwaysbe enabled toincrease thesecurity of yourwireless net-work.Default Transmit Key Select which WEP key (1-4) will be used when the Router sends data. Make sure the receiver is using the same key.WEP Encryption Keys 1-4 offer 64-bit, 128-bit, or 152-bit encryption; select the type of encryption you want from the drop-down box. To disable WEPEncryption, select Disable . Passphrase (Complete this field when using 64-bit or 128-bit encryption.) Instead of manually entering WEP keys, you can enter a Passphrase. ThisPassphrase is used to generate one or more WEP keys. It is case-sensitive andshould not be longer than 16 alphanumeric characters. This Passphrase functionis compatible with Linksys wireless products only. [If you want to communi-cate with non-Linksys wireless products, enter the WEP key(s) manually on thenon-Linksys wireless products.] After you enter the Passphrase, click theGenerate button to create WEP keys. Keys 1-4 WEP keys enable you to create an encryption scheme for wireless LAN transmissions. Manually enter a set of values. (Do not leave a key fieldblank, and do not enter all zeroes. These are not valid key values.) Keys 1-4offer 64-bit, 128-bit, or 152-bit encryption.If you are using 64-bit WEP encryption, then the key must be exactly 10 hexa-decimal characters in length. You can select from a range of transmissionspeeds ( 6 , 9 , 12 , 18 , 24 , 36 , 48 , or 54 Mbps), or you can select Auto to have the Router automatically use the fastest possible data rate and enable the Auto-Fallback feature. Auto-Fallback will negotiate the best possible connectionspeed between the Router and a wireless client. The default value is Auto . Transmit Power Control The greater the transmit power used, the larger the area a wireless network covers. To minimize the likelihood of eavesdropping byunauthorized wireless users, do not use more transmit power than necessary tocover the range needed for your wireless network. Try using the Router at dif-ferent levels of transmit power, and determine how much transmit power isneeded to reach the wireless client, such as a PC, or access point that is farthestfrom the Router. There is no antenna connector. Under normal use condition, the user has to keep at least 20cm separation distance between radiator and the body of the user. This device is a Dual-Band Wireless A+G Broadband Router which operates in both the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands and can be operated simultaneously. The total MPE of these combination is shorter than 20cm and the maximum data rate could be 72Mbps. For more detailed instruction, please take a look at the user’s manual. FCC 15.407(c) states : The device shall automatically discontinue transmission in case of either absence of information to transmit or operational failure. These provisions are not intended to preclude the transmission of control or signaling information or the use of repetitive codes used by certain digital technologies to complete frame or burst intervals. Applicants shall include in their application for equipment authorization a description of hoe this requirement is met” Data transmission is always initiated by software, which is then pass down through the MAC, through the digital and analog baseband, and finally to the RF chip. Several special packets (ACKs, CTS, PSPoll, etc...) are initiated by the MAC. There are the only ways the digital baseband portion will turn on the RF transmitter, which it then turns off at the end of the packet. Therefore, the transmitter will be on only while one of the aforementioned packets are being transmitted.

The limit for Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) specified in FCC 1.1310 is followed. The Gain of the antenna used in this product is measured in a Fully Anechoic Chamber (FAC) calibrated for antenna measurement in ADT, and also the maximum total power input to the antenna is measured. Through the Friis transmission formula and the maximum gain of the antenna, we can calculate the distance, away from the product, where the limit of MPE is reached. Although the Friis transmission formula is a far field assumption, the calculated result of that is an over-prediction for near field power density. We will take that as the worst case to specify the safety range. 2. Classification This device is not fixed inside the host equipment, it is connected with host through wire.
