UMAWP24S Rev 2v0 Revised March 13, 2007 AW24RUH User Manual 2.4GHz DSSS SPI Radio with Integrated Power Amplifier 2.4GHz DSSS SPI Radio with Integrated Power Amplifier AW24RUH User Manual Artaflex Inc. MAW24RUH Rev 1v0 215 Konrad Crescent Revised January 5, 2011 Markham, Ontario, Canada L3R8T9 Page 2 of 10 http://www.artaflexmodules.com 905-479-0148 Introduction One of the bottlenecks that many product developers encounter in incorporating any radio communication device is facing the legal aspect of qualifying the products and going to market without encountering legal problems. The Telecommunication Certification Body (TCB) authorization process in the United States offers manufacturers more than one approval body. The TCB authorization process certifies devices in accordance with FCC rules and policies. The performance of the Artaflex AW24RUH radio is measured according to the requirements of FCC rules. The major applicable FCC regulations are described in Section 15.247 (a) to (d). This document gives an overview of the legal issues governing the manufacture and sale of the Artaflex AW24RUH wireless module intended for unlicensed operation in the United States under FCC Part 15, Industry Canada RSS-210 and European Union ETSI EN 300 328-2 (Article 3.2 of R&TTE) and ETSI EN 301 489-1 & ETSI EN 301 489-7. OEMs may need to obtain standard equipment regulatory agency certification and for end product deployment in countries where Modular Approval is not recognized. The details of standard equipment regulatory compliance are beyond the scope of this document. OEMs needing standard equipment regulatory testing or who need council for determining regional requirement should contact approved certification and test service providers accordingly. Artaflex can provide assistance in obtaining regulatory compliance when required by the OEM. 2.4GHz DSSS SPI Radio with Integrated Power Amplifier AW24RUH User Manual Artaflex Inc. MAW24RUH Rev 1v0 215 Konrad Crescent Revised January 5, 2011 Markham, Ontario, Canada L3R8T9 Page 4 of 10 http://www.artaflexmodules.com 905-479-0148 1.0 Eligibility Requirements for Regulatory Module Approval The Artaflex 2.4GHz DSSS SPI Radio with Integrated Print Antenna module (AW24RUH) is a device that transmits and receives radio signals in accordance with the spectrum regulations for the 2.4GHz unlicensed frequency range. Regional regulatory agency approval may be required to operate AW24RUH throughout the world. For purposes of ease of integration, time to market, and product surety, Artaflex submitted the AW24RUH to relevant agencies and obtained regulatory approvals for specific countries. The AW24RUH was approved under the “Modular Approval (MA) Grant”. This certification represents a significant cost savings to the OEM. The radio certification portion of this grant is transferable to Digital Electronic Device manufacturers given adherence to specific implementation criteria noted herein. Any modification of the AW24RUH will void the manufacturer’s warranty. Any alteration or deviation from the documented installation and/or use of the AW24RUH will void the MA Grant as it applies to the end-product. In the event the Digital Electronic Device manufacturer alters the herein described and approved installation of the AW24RUH, the end-product may require a complete recertification testing by the Digital Electronic Device manufacturer. The MA Grant provides that Digital Electronic Device manufacturers, who incorporate the AW24RUH as tested and approved, can be relieved from having to perform the Radio Regulatory certification portion of the respective agency certification. While the OEM for a device into which an authorized module is installed is not required to obtain a new authorization for the module, this does not preclude the possibility that some other form of authorization or testing may be required for the device (e.g., a WLAN into which an authorized module is installed must still be authorized as a PC peripheral, subject to the appropriate equipment authorization). The MA Grant is valid only in countries that recognize the MA Grant certification process. Countries currently accepting the MA Grant include; the USA, Canada, and many European countries as noted in Section 5.2 of this document. Terms and conditions of regulatory approval for these countries are also described herein. However, this “gran…

The following statements detail these requirements and the manner in which the device meets them. The module has its own complete RF transceiver with built in antenna and reference oscillator. The module meets all of the technical specifications applicable to the frequency band of operation. 1. RF Shielding The module contains metal shield over the transmitter section to ensure that it does not have to rely upon shielding provided by the device into which it is installed and to prevent coupling into which the device will be installed. 2. Buffered Modulation / Data Inputs Data to the modulation circuit is buffered on the module via the WirelessUSB integrated circuit. Refer to the information regarding the on-board Serdes (SPI) provided with the file “Data Sheet DSAW24RUH” that details the theory of operation. 3. Power Supply Regulation Power supply regulation is provided within the WirelessUSB integrated circuit that regulates the control voltage to the RF and data circuitry. The maximum allowable voltage that can be used in the chip is 2.4VDC – 3.6VDC. The variable input voltage is therefore a voltage regulator. 4. Antenna Requirements The module uses a mini coaxial connector U.FL for adaptation of an external antenna. 5. The modular transmitter must be tested in a stand-alone configuration Test data contained in this application is for the device tested as a stand alone device. Radiated spurious emissions data demonstrating compliance with the requirements of Part 15 of the FCC rules for intentional radiators has been provided. Please refer to the test report for details. ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURING AND DESIGN Artaflex Inc. TEL: 905.479.0148 215 Konrad Crescent FAX: 905.479.0149 2 of 2 Markham, ON L3R8T9Canada www.artaflex.com 6. The modular transmitter must be labeled with its own FCC ID number The module itself is appropriately labeled with its own FCC ID. When the module is installed inside another device or in a casing, the exterior label will make reference to the enclosed module and its FCC ID. Refer to the label location and drawings contained within this application. The UMAW24RUH User Manuals contain specific references for exterior end product label requirements, including the use of the wording “Contains Transmitter Module FCC ID UP2AW24RUH”. 7. Operating requirements The module has no serviceable parts. The Digital Electronic Device manufacturer has control to the module via the serial data for data transmission modes and data rates as well as predefined output power settings. This can be seen in the “Data Sheet DSAW24RUH” provided. 8. RF Exposure requirements The module meets the requirements for a portable device as per FCC RF exposure requirements and requires a separation distances of 20cm between the radiating structure and human as reflected in the module’s UMAW24RUH User Manual. Sincerely, _________________________ Wayne Embree Design Services Manager Artaflex Inc.

Modular Approval. Power output is conducted and measured at the antenna terminal. This is an OEM transmitter module approved for use in products operating as a mobile transmitting device with respect to 2.1091. MPE compliance was demonstrated with a typical antenna(s) gain as shown in this filing. Products operating with this module are required to provide a minimum separation distance of 20cm. Grantee must coordinate with OEM integrators to ensure the end-users of products operating with this module are provided with operating instructions to satisfy RF exposure requirements. Separate approval is required for all other operating configurations, including portable configurations with respect to 2.1093 and different antenna configurations.
