The s ens or us es Radio Freque ncy, centre d on 10.525 GHz, which is a license-free operating band. The BM11 is des igned to be eas ily incorporated into Original Equipme nt Manufacture rs β own products , whe re the breathing rate and rhythm of a s ubject is required. The key features are: β’ Small antenna horn: eas y to incorporate the circuit board into anothe r product. β’ Slender and enclosed circuitry: gives maximum flexibility in enclosure design. β’ Very low emitted powe r, less than home broadband router or mobile phone BlueTooth. β’ Non-contact: eas e of us e and comfort for the cus tome r. β’ Very short range: the sensor is selective. The s ens or has 2 channels , I and Q, providing move ment and breathing data. The sensor data is provided as an analogue signal. BM1 1 Technology Overview The sens or module is des igned to emit very low powe r RF waves that are reflected by a human subject within the field of the sensor. The reflected waves received by the s ens or contain information about the motion of the human s ubject bas ed on the Dopple r Effect. The s ys tem detects move ment of the s ubject due to breathi ng and als o due to change in pos ition. The s ens or module trans lates the move ment of the human s ubject into electrical signals. To maximise the information obtained from the sens or, the s ignals are converted into two voltage signals. These signals are referred to as the βIβ and βQβ channels . The s ens or module outputs thes e two analogue voltage signals and they are pres ented to the OEM hos t device for digitising. There is a companion s oftware library available, that extracts breathing, movement and sleeping information from the sensor data. This software library can reside within the OEM application and provide the information under the applicationβs control. See BiancaMed product s pecification BM012_DES01 for details.
