While these documents do not contain design-specific or IP information, they are typically offered for sale as an optional part of the product and are not available in the public domain, since these items represent a source of revenue for the company. 4) Please revise the form 731. This is an oversight on our part. a) Tests were done on channel 39 with the exception of frequency stability tests, performed on channel 60. We feel that these are sufficiently representative of the performance of this product at any frequency/channel. b) As detailed in the Parts List and Tune-up Procedure exhibit, no component changes other than the re-tuning of the output bandpass filter are required for operation on any channel within the product’s frequency range. Operational Description

BZ5MXI401UX Application for Certification Heterodyne Processor Input 500 Watt UHF Translator Operational Description This application requests authorization for a video/audio input driven 500 Watt translator, BZ5MXI401UX. The translator is driven directly by a color television Heterodyne processor. The intended use of the MXI401U is to rebroadcast a television relay station or other legal source of video and audio. The MXI401U is a solid state translator designed to operate a 500W sync peak visual RF power and 50W average aural single carrier RF power. The MXi401U consists of four components: a 1RU modulator, a 3 RU RF amplifier, a 3 RU Power supply for said amplifier and an output filter. The power supply and amplifier employ integral cooling fans. The simplicity of design, the employment of modular subassemblies and the use of standard components also enhance serviceability. The specific unit tested for this application was on channel 39, with the exception of frequency stability measurements which were conducted on channel 60. The Heterodyne Processor section of this translator will accept an off-air signal from the television relay station, frequency spacing, deviation and other characteristics including distortion are therefore determined for the most part by the originating television station. No provision is made for tampering with or adjustment of the composite video or audio signal except for the depth of video and audio modulation. The MXI401U meets all requirements for unattended operation. A description of the automatic shutdown and control circuitry can be found in the user’s manual. Station identification requirements will be supplied by the originating station. Wiring, shielding and construction are in accordance with accepted principles of good engineering practice. The translator’s construction is such that all hazardous components are enclosed or protected against accidental contact by operating personnel.

Parts List/Tune Up Info

BZ5MXI401UX Application for Certification Heterodyne Processor Input 500 Watt UHF Translator Parts List and Tune-up Procedure/Active Devices: The following is the procedure for changing the channel of the MXi401U translator. Since the amplifier is broadband, channel change involves retuning of the output filter and recalibration of the output meter. The amplifier meter was calibrated to read 100% (top scale) at full power and at the channel specified when the transmitter was tested at the factory. If the amplifier is to operate at a channel other than that of the factory test channel, the metering will require re-calibration. The power meter setting is a channel dependent calibration. 1. Connect the transmitter output to a 50 ohm dummy load or the antenna. The transmitter uses a 50Ω type N connector for its output. Calibrated directional coupler and suitable digital wattmeter should be used for measurements. 2. Connect the 208VAC mains input. This AC circuit should be rated for 15 amperes, and should be supplied through a slow-tripping breaker or time delay fuse. Generally, a breaker that is rated for across-the-line motor starting will be found to be satisfactory. Connect the power supply to the amplifier. 3. At this point the LCD screen should be illuminated, and the transmitter should be OFF. Depress the ON’ switch. The green LEDs should illuminate and the amplifier should be operating. The cooling fans on both the power supply and the amplifier should be running. 4. Attach the RF output power measuring device. 5. Turn down the drive level from the Transcoder (front end) before applying any RF input signal. 6. Slowly turn up the drive level until the output power reaches the desired level (on the power measuring device – not the transmitter power meter indication). 7. When the output power is at the desired level check that the voltage at TP3 (control PC board) is between 4.5V and 9.0VDC. 8. Adjust R48 until the voltage at TP3 is 4.0VDC. At this point the transmitter forward power meter should read 100%. 9. To calibrate the reflected power, install the jumper E17 (prevents VSWR trips). 10. Remove the cable from J12 at the control board and reconnect through a 10dB attenuator to J13. 11. The voltage measured at TP4 should be beterrn 4.5V and 9.0VDC. 12. Adjust potentiometer R80 until the voltage at TP5 is 4.0VDC. At this point the reflected power should read 10%. 13. Reconnect the cables as they were, and remove jumper at E17. BZ5MXI401UX Application for Certification Heterodyne Processor Input 500 Watt UHF Translator Power Measurements The translator’s visual power meter circuit uses a detected sample from a directional coupler on the output. A peak detector provides the DC level to drive the translator’s output level meter. The translator was modulated with a sync and blanking signal only and the power output adjusted to 298 W average, corresponding to a peak envelope sync power of 500 W. The translator is capable of compliance with the specification for the range 50 W to 500 W and is capable of delivering rated power output at 10% above or below rated AC input voltage. The aural carrier output power was measured unmodulated into the dummy load and is not less than 10% or more than 20% of the rated output power of the visual carrier. The tests were performed with aural power adjusted to 50 W and verified using a spectrum analyzer to compare the relative level with that of the visual carrier. The power output of the transmitter is adjustable to at least 10 dB below rated power output.
