Introduction TheWS4936/WS4936EU/WS8936isawirelesspho- toelectricsmokedetectorwithafixedtemperatureandrateof riseheatdetector,andaninternalpiezoelectricalarm.Four versionsareavailable:USversion(UL),Canadianversion (ULC),Internationalversion(EU),andAustralianversion (AUS). NOTE:Heatdetectionbasedonrateofrisehasnotbeen investigatedbyUL/ULC. NOTE:AUandEUversionsdonotincludeafixedtem- peratureheatalarm,butDOincludearateofrise alarm. HUSH/TEST BUTTON Operation Approximatelyevery7to8secondstheunittestsforasmoke orheatalarmcondition.Duringthissequencetheunitalso performsselfdiagnostics,andchecksfortampersandfaults. DuringnormaloperationthegreenLEDwillflashevery12 secondsandthesounderwillnotsound. SmokeAlarm Thesmokedetectorwillgointoalarmwhenthesignallevel exceedsthe“alarm”thresholdandautomaticallyrestore whenthesignallevelfallsbelowthealarm“restore” threshold.DuringanalarmtheLEDwillflash1/secondand thesounderwillsoundtheevacuationtemporalpattern(UL, EU,ULC). AlarmSilencing Thissmokealarmisprovidedwithanautomaticallyresettable alarmsilencingfeature.Whenthesensorisinalarm,bypress- ingtheTest/Silence/Resetbuttonitwillsilencethelocal annunciationofthealarmandtransmitanalarmrestoral eventtothecontrolpanel.TheLEDwillflashevery8seconds (forupto10minutes)toindicatethealarmhasbeen silenced. 29009523R001 TheflashingLEDwillstopwhentheunitreturnstonormal operation.Thealarmsilencefeaturehasafixedtimesetting thatdesensitizesthesmokealarmfor8minutes. Alarmsilencingdoesnotdisablethesmokealarmbutrather reducesitssmokesensitivity.Followingthesilencedperiod thesmokealarmrestoresautomaticallytoitsintendedoper- ation.Ifsmokearoundtheunitisdenseenoughtosuggesta potentiallydangeroussituation,itwillstayinalarm,ormay returntothealarmstatequickly. HeatAlarm Theheatdetector(UL/ULCversionsonly)willgointoalarm whentheheatsignallevelexceedstheheatalarmthreshold (135ºF/57ºC);andwillautomaticallyrestorewhentheheatsig- nallevelfallsbelowtheheatalarmthreshold(restore).The detectorwillalsogointoheatalarmifthereisarapid increaseinthetemperatureoverashortperiodoftime.Dur- inganalarmtheLEDwillflash1/secondandthesounderwill soundtheevacuationtemporalpattern(UL,EU)orcon- tinuousbeeps(ULC). Tamper Theremovalofthedetectorfromthemountingplateinitiates a“tamper”transmission.Thetamperconditionisrestored afterthedetectorismountedontheplate. WirelessTransmissions Asupervisorymessageistransmittedat64minuteintervals (12minutesinEUmodel)tothecontrolpanel.Ifthesignalis notreceivedthecontrolpaneldeterminesthatthedetectoris missing. Thedetectortransmitsthefollowing: l Alarm/AlarmRestore-(heatorsmokealarm).Trans- mittedattimeofoccurrence. l Tamper/TamperRestore-(tamperswitchactivated)10 secondmaximumdelayonrestorebeforetransmission. l LowBattery-(batteryvoltagefallsbelowthreshold).Bat- teryvoltageistested&transmittedatthetimeofasuper- visoryorothertransmissions. l Trouble-(detectorfaultorsensorcompensationlimit reached).Troublesaretransmittedatthetimeofoccur- rence(onetroublepersupervisoryinterval). Batteries NOTE:Thebatteriesmustbereplacedbyservicepersons only. Thewirelesssmokeheatalarmispoweredby3AAADur- acellProcellPC2400or3AAAEnergizerE92batteries (included).Thedetectorregularlychecksforalowbattery.Ifa lowbatteryisdetected,thetransmittersendsalowbattery messagetothecontrolpanel,whichdisplaysthedetector'sID atlowbattery.Inaddition,theyellowLEDofthedetectorwill blinkevery12seconds.Thedetector'ssounderwillchirp every48seconds(yellowLED continuestoblink)untilthebat- teriesarereplaced.Pressingthehushbuttonwillsilencethe chirpsfor12hours,ifnoothertroubleconditionsexist.The batteriesshouldbereplacedWHEN thechirpsbegin.Be suretoreplacethebatterieswithfreshones. BatteryInstallationandReplacement Toreplacebatteries: 1.Removethedetectorfromitsmountingbasebytwisting thedetectorcounterclockwise.Removeanddisposeof thebatteriesaccordingtolocalregulations. 2.Toensureaproperpower-downsequence,waitamin- imumof20secondsbeforeinstallingnewbatteries. 3.Install3newAAAbatteries(availablefromalocalDur- acellorEnergizerdealer)inthebatterycompartment.If thebatteriesareincorrectlyinserted,pleaseremove themcarefullywithanon-conductivetoolandcorrectly re-insertthem.
