Operational Description

Product Operation Description Model RM181 is a 2.4 GHz FHSS transceiver in PCMCIA (PC-Card) form. It is manufactured by Proxim Inc. of Mountain View, CA. It has already been certified by the FCC under FCC ID: IMKRL21PC. Intermec Technologies integrates this module into our data automation products such as handheld barcode terminals, access points, PenKey terminals etc, which exchange data over the wireless LAN network. Since some of these products use different antennas than the ones listed by Proxim and as a result of our contractual obligations, we would like to apply for a new grant to Intermec Technologies for the same transceiver. The product is in a standard PCMCIA (PC-Card) enclosure with an MMCX antenna connector. Detailed pictures of the product and the circuit boards are included in the Photos section. Technical details of the transceiver such as Theory of Operation are in the file named “Radio Operation”. Power levels, frequency ranges and channel characteristics are not user adjustable.

RF Exposure Info

Intermec Technologies Corporation 6001 36 th Ave W MS270 Everett, WA 98203-9280 October 7, 1998 Intermec Technologies Corporation declares the compliance of our product Model RM181 with the following specific sections of FCC rules under the explained conditions: • • OET Bulletin 65 on RF Exposure Compliance Spread Spectrum devices are categorically excluded from SAR testing per Supplement C (Edition 97-01) to OET Bulletin 65 (Edition 97-01) section 3 (page 22). However, there are restrictions in forms of user warnings and even testing requirements depending on output power levels. In our conversations with Mr. Kwok of the FCC Authorization and Evaluation Laboratories in the recent months, we came to the understanding that for products similar to this one where the transmit power is under 100 mW and antenna gain does not exceed 6 dB, a warning statement in the manual supplement cautioning the user not to touch the antenna during operation would be adequate. We have other requirements for other products with higher output powers, but the statement in the attached document was found adequate by him. Please feel free to contact us, if you have any questions regarding these issues. Sincerely, Kursat Eroglu, MSEE Sr. EMC Engineer

Test Report

Model RM181 Radio Module Power Line Conducted Emission Tests: The following tests were performed upon FCC’s request on the Panasonic CF-35 laptop host device. They were not included in the original test report, since the transceiver module itself does not have direct power line connection. To demonstrate any potential impact of the module on the host device’s power line conducted emissions, the host device was tested with and without the transceiver connected and transmitting. The plots on the following pages show the conducted emissions in neutral and hot lines, with and without the transceiver. There were only two significant emissions within 20 dB of the Class B limit line generated by the host laptop. As can be seen on the plots, the transceiver did not have any significant impact on the host emissions.
