The information contained in this applications note is intended to assist the operator in developing a set of installation guidelines and operating practices for the field personnel skilled in installing roof top subscriber equipment. NOTE to INSTALLER: 1. Installation and operation of this family of Transceiver products require full compliance with FCC-adopted radio frequency exposure limits. It is in the responsibility of the installer to install these devices and their associated antennas so that RF exposure does not exceed 1.0mW/cm 2 . When installing a standalone Transceiver, orient the FCC RF exposure label so that it is facing the front of the Antenna This is a mandatory requirement by the FCC to comply with RF exposure compliance requirements. The label should not be obstructed when installation is complete. This will allow the warning label to be visible and readable. This is a mandatory requirement by the FCC to comply with RF exposure compliance requirements 131908/2C+A 3 INSTALLATION PRACTICES In a customer installation, there are several factors that must be considered before the installation can take place: Signal contour strength and direction of the transmitting source, seasonal interference’s such as foliage and trees, aesthetics of the outdoor installation, system performance and overall customer satisfaction with the final product. In each case the customer wants the very best signal quality with a minimum of construction and aesthetic impact to their home or business. This will dictate the use of a variety of antenna configurations in order to perform the task of providing adequate signal strength while maintaining low visual impact. The order of visual impact follows the height and size of the antenna. A wall or gutter mount will present a very low visual profile. This if followed by a short roof or chimney mount. When higher gain or foliage clearance is needed, then a tree mount or mast mount should be considered. The following mounts are described and their general application: Wall or Standoff Mount: These are used in high signal density areas where antenna aesthetics is of concern. It offers great flexibility in mounting angles and locations. The stand-off arms mount from the wall and or the eave and support the mast in the vertical position. The mast may be short in length so as to place the antenna above the roof line or a telescoping mast may be used in conjunction with a ground plate to extend the antenna height to above the roof peak. Roof Mounts : The same basic hardware used for wall and eave mounts is used for a roof mount. This mounting bracket and pole is adjustable in the vertical plane and will raise the antenna about 24” above the mounting location. The bracket must be secured into a structural member, not simply into siding or shingles. All points of attachment must be properly waterproofed. 131908/2C+A 4 Chimney Mounts: Chimney mounts are one of the easiest types of mounts to install. In the application of brick-type chimneys, a dual band strap mount is best. The proper strap will securely fasten the mounting bracket and antenna. For wood over metal construction chimney, a version of the wall mount is best. Make sure the anchor bolts attach to a supporting stud member and not just the fascia board. 131908/2C+A 5 Tripod Mount : The tripod mount offers ease of installation, stable mounting structure, and signal visibility. It is however, bulky and not very aesthetic. The tripod mount comes in 3, 5, 10 and 15-foot sections. As with the roof mount installation, the mounting bolts must always be attached to roof joists and be properly sealed. Tree Mounts: In regions of the country with heavy foliage, tree mounts are popular. This is a highly specialized installation and is beyond the scope of this installation guide. Specific instructions and practices can only be formatted by the individual operator in their region (not pictured). Every installation must adhere to company policies, applicable specifications and drawings of the system operator. This requirement includes: the choice of antennas, the weatherproofing of all connections, all penetrations into the building and all grounding procedures, both at the antenna mount and at the point of drop entry into the building. I did not want to upload this page twice in order to show page two of the manual and also the label location. I have been requested to minimize the number of documents uploaded, so this is the only way I know of when information for two categories is in one document file.

Operational Description

WCS-MMDS Transceiver 520006-1 Description Of Operation This product is a two-way microwave transceiver designed to operate over the WCS band (2305- 2317 MHz) as the transmitter and over the MMDS band (2500-2686 MHz) as the receiver. The receive and transmit chains of the design are combined utilizing proper dilpexing and filtering at each respective band. There is one common RF port for both RF Receive (Rx) band, and RF Transmit (Tx) band, and one common IF port for the Rx IF band and Tx IF band. This product is designed to operate with cable-ready type Modems in order to provide high speed internet access to the consumers. Modem upstream IF band is 28.062-40.062 MHz and downstream IF band is 222-408 MHz. As an out door unit, this transceiver is connected to a directive Antenna, which is designed to cover both Rx and Tx bands. The Antenna gain of a typical installation is about 17 dBi. The transmit section in this transceiver is a dual conversion frequency translator. The modem IF input frequency band of 28.062-40.062 MHz is unconverted to an intermediate IF frequency of 162 to 174 MHz, which then gets unconverted to the desired RF transmit band of 2305-2317 MHz. The unit is capable of up to 24 dBm output 1-dB compression point at approximately 28 dB of total gain. The local oscillator (LO) used in the transmit section design is an S-Band oscillator at 2143 MHz phase locked to a highly stable Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator (TCXO) and exhibits a long term stability of ±10 KHz over the operating temperature range of –30 deg C to +70 deg. C. This LO is used in the second upconversion process, which yields the Tx RF band. The 133.938 MHz LO used in the first upconversion process is derived from the 2143 MHz S- Band LO by dividing it by 16. The Transmit block diagram is shown below. It shows the various gain, mixing, and filtering blocks that make up this chain. All filters were specifically designed and placed appropriately along the transmit chain to achieve the desired rejection masks in order to comply with internal and external interfering sources and emission requirements. A QPSK signal of up to 6 MHz wide within the frequency band of 28.062-40.062 MHz is provided from the Hybrid Networks modem, model number N231. The output is adjusted in 1 dB steps from 8 dBmV to 58 dBmV into the transceiver, which in turn gets up converted twice for the desired RF transmit band of 2305-2317 MHz. In order to eliminate aggregate noise power at the receive hub due to emitted broad band noise from all the subscribers connected to the service, and thus maintain adequate signal quality, the transceiver utilizes a blanking feature which allows it to turn off the Transmitter when not in use. The transmitter is enabled by a predetermined minimum signal received from the modem. A typical install at a subscriber’s site includes this modem, the transceiver, the antenna, a plug-in power supply, cables and any additional powers dividers/splitters. The installer mounts the transceiver with the Antenna at a rooftop, and aligns the antenna towards the service provider’s hub for maximum signal quality. A cable run connects the transceiver with the indoor modem. This establishes the link between the transceiver and the hub.
