SATELLINE-M3-TR1 User Guide, Version 1.4 3 RESTRICTIONS ON USE SATELLINE-M3-TR1 radio modem has been designed to operate on 403...473 MHz, the exact use of which differs from one region and/or country to another. The user of a radio modem must take care that the said device is not operated without the permission of the local authorities on frequencies other than those specifically reserved and intended for use without a specific permit. WARNING! Users of SATELLINE-M3-TR1 radio modem in North America should be aware, that due to the allocation of the frequency band 406.0 – 406.1 MHz for government use only, the use of radio modem on this frequency band without a proper permit is strictly forbidden. SATELLINE-M3-TR1 User Guide, Version 1.4 4 PRODUCT CONFORMITY SATELLINE-M3-TR1 SATEL Oy hereby declares that SATELLINE-M3-TR1 radio modems are in compliance with the essential requirements (radio performance, electromagnetic compatibility and electrical safety) and other relevant provisions of Directive 1999/5/EC. Therefore the equipment is labelled with the following CE-marking. The notification sign informs users that the operating frequency range of the device is not harmonised throughout the market area, and the local spectrum authority should be contacted before the usage of the radio modem is used. SATELLINE-M3-TR1 User Guide, Version 1.4 5 WARRANTY AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Read these safety instructions carefully before using the product: o Warranty will be void, if the product is used in any way that is in contradiction with the instructions given in this manual, or if the radio modem housing has been opened or tampered with. o The radio modem is only to be operated at frequencies allocated by local authorities, and without exceeding the given maximum allowed output power ratings. SATEL and its distributors are not responsible, if any products manufactured by it are used in unlawful ways. o The devices mentioned in this manual are to be used only according to the instructions described in this manual. Faultless and safe operation of the devices can be guaranteed only if the transport, storage, operation and handling of the devices is appropriate. This also applies to the maintenance of the products. o To prevent damage it is recommended that both the radio modem and any terminal devices are switched OFF before connecting or disconnecting the serial connection cable. It should be ascertained that different devices used have the same ground potential. Before connecting any power cables the output voltage of the power supply should be checked. NOTE! When selecting a suitable location for the radio modem it must be ensured that no water can get into the radio modem under any conditions. Direct sunlight is also to be avoided. It is not recommendable to install the radio modem on a strongly vibrating surface. Suitable dampening and/or isolation materials should be used in cases where the installation surface will be subjected to vibration. Based on these facts, the necessary bandwidth is calculated according to the formula in the section §2.202 (g) part III-A/1. Calculation for 12.5 kHz channel spacing B n = 2M+2DK , M = B/2 , K = 1.2 B = 4800 bauds => M = 2400 s -1 D = 3.3 kHz B n = 2 x 2400 Hz + 2 x 3300 Hz x 1.2 = 12.7 kHz Calculation for 25 kHz channel spacing B n = 2M+2DK , M = B/2 , K = 1.2 B = 9800 bauds => M = 4800 s -1 D = 6 kHz B n = 2 x 4800 Hz + 2 x 6000 Hz x 1.2 = 24.0 kHz Note! Due to the fact that the maximum deviation never occurs simultaneously with the maximum modulation frequency, the real bandwidth of the emitted signal is lower than the ones calculated according to the formula above.

The encoder block of the FX919B circuit translates the binary data to 4-level symbols. Each symbol contains the information of two bits. After encoding, the data symbols are passed through a linear-phase lowpass filter with a ‘Root Raised Cosine’ (RRC) frequency response defined by the function H(f) = 1 for 0 ≤ f < (1-b)/(2T) = square root of {0.5 [1 – sin(πT (f – 0.5/T)/b)]} for (1-b)/(2T) ≤ f ≤ (1+b)/(2T) = 0 for (1+b)/(2T) < f , where b = 0.2 and T = 1/symbol rate, to eliminate the high frequency components of the modulating signal. Referring to the items of your request, the following information has been prepared. SATEL Oy, as a manufacturer of SATELLINE-M3-TR1 (SATEL-TA13) radio modems, states that this equipment is designed for operation in the 403 - 473 MHz band. The frequencies 406.0 – 406.1 MHz can be rejected by the manufacturer. When ordering modems from SATEL Oy, the customer needs to advice the country where it is going to be shipped. When the country code is US, the production does not adjust the operation frequency within frequencies 406.0 – 406.1 MHz. The end user can’t program and transmit on frequencies, other than those programmed by the manufacturer, service or maintenance personnel. It is a violation of FCC rules if the device operates on unauthorized frequencies. Salo, Finland, December 9 th , 2009 Marita Latovehmas SATEL Oy Type Approval Engineer
