SATELLINE-EASy Pro 35W User Guide v.0.2 2 RESTRICTIONS ON USE SATELLINE-EASy Pro 35W radio modems have been designed to operate on frequency ranges, the exact use of which differs from one region and/or country to another. The user of a radio modem must take care that the said device is not operated without the permission of the local authorities on frequencies other than those specifically reserved and intended for use without a specific permit. SATELLINE-EASy Pro 35W is allowed to be use only in countries where FCC approval is valid. It does not fulfil the ETSI specification. WARNING! Users of SATELLINE-EASy Pro 35W radio modems in North America should be aware, that due to the allocation of the frequency band 406.0 – 406.1 MHz for government use only, the use of radio modem on this frequency band without a proper permit is strictly forbidden. SATELLINE-EASy Pro 35W User Guide v.0.2 3 PRODUCT CONFORMITY Hereby, SATEL Oy declares that SATELLINE-EASy Pro 35W conforms to the requirements of Code of Federal Regulations, Title 47, Part 90 (Federal Communications Commission, FCC). SATELLINE-EASy Pro 35W User Guide v.0.2 4 WARRANTY AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Read these safety instructions carefully before using the product: o Warranty will be void, if the product is used in any way that is in contradiction with the instructions given in this manual, or if the radio modem housing has been opened or tampered with. o The radio modem is only to be operated at frequencies allocated by local authorities, and without exceeding the given maximum allowed output power ratings. SATEL and its distributors are not responsible, if any products manufactured by it are used in unlawful ways. o The devices mentioned in this manual are to be used only according to the instructions described in this manual. Faultless and safe operation of the devices can be guaranteed only if the transport, storage, operation and handling of the devices are appropriate. This also applies to the maintenance of the products. o To prevent damage both the radio modem and any terminal devices must always be switched OFF before connecting or disconnecting the serial connection cable. It should be ascertained that different devices used have the same ground potential. Before connecting any power cables the output voltage of the power supply should be checked. The encoder block of the FX919B circuit translates the binary data to 4-level symbols. Each symbol contains the information of two bits. After encoding, the data symbols are passed through a linear-phase lowpass filter with a ‘Root Raised Cosine’ (RRC) frequency response defined by the function H(f) = 1 for 0 f < (1-b)/(2T) = square root of {0.5 [1 – sin(T (f – 0.5/T)/b)]} for (1-b)/(2T) f (1+b)/(2T) = 0 for (1+b)/(2T) < f , where b = 0.2 and T = 1/symbol rate, to eliminate the high frequency components of the modulating signal. Correspondence 39301 18.11.2010 MaritaL FCC ID: MRBSATEL-TA18 Correspondence Reference Number: 39301 Form 731 Confirmation Number: EA392352 Dear Mrs Diane Poole Thank you for your email addressed to Mrs Marita Latovehmas at SATEL Oy. Referring to the items of your request, the following information has been prepared. SATEL Oy, as a manufacturer of SATELLINE-EASy Pro 35W (SATEL-TA18) radio modems, states that this equipment is designed for operation in the 403 - 473 MHz band. The frequencies 406.0 – 406.1 MHz can be rejected by the manufacturer. When ordering modems from SATEL Oy, the customer needs to advice the country where it is going to be shipped. When the country code is US, the production does not adjust the operation frequency within frequencies 406.0 – 406.1 MHz. The end user can’t program and transmit on frequencies, other than those programmed by the manufacturer, service or maintenance personnel. It is a violation of FCC rules if the device operates on unauthorized frequencies. Salo, Finland, November 18 th , 2010 Marita Latovehmas SATEL Oy Type Approval Engineer

Limits for maximum permissible exposure are set in the federal rules 47 CFR §1.1310. Further information on evaluating compliance with these limits is found in the FCC’s OST/OET Bulletin Number 65. Prediction methods applied Minimum safe distances have been calculated for controlled / occupational exposures and for uncontrolled / general population exposures. The following formulas are used in calculations. 2 4R PG S   where: S = power density [mW/cm 2 ] P = power input to the antenna [mW] G = power gain of the antenna in direction of interest, relative to an isotropic radiator [numeric] R = distance to the centre of radiation of the antenna [cm] S PG R R PG S   4 4 2  Applicable limits for maximum permissible exposure The operating frequency range of SATELLINE-EASy Pro 35W radio modem is 403-473 MHz, and the transmitter output power range is 1W to 35 W. Tx duty cycle, which is determined by the terminal device, can be up to 100 %. Based on the above technical parameters and the Table 1 in the federal rules 47 CFR §1.1310, the following limits of power density shall apply: a) Occupational/Controlled Exposures: f/300 mW/cm 2 (averaging time 6 minutes) b) General population/Uncontrolled Exposure: f/1500 mW/cm 2 (averaging time 30 minutes) RF EXPOSURE STATEMENT SATELLINE-EASy Pro 35W radio modem FCC ID: MRBSATEL-TA18 STATEMENT October 18 th , 2010 / MaritaL Page 2 of 3 Calculations for the minimum safe distances Minimum distance to the antenna in case of General population/Uncontrolled situation:  9375.31500/4704 PGPG R  Tx power can be corrected with the 30-minute average value of the Tx duty cycle.
