Bluetooth wireless technology provides fast, reliable, and secure wireless communication in a small space, and enables you to synchronize devices like your desktop computer and mobile phone. Without the need of any cables or wiring, you can:  Transfer files  Access DialUp networks  Connect to local area networks  Connect to audio ports  Connect to serial ports The basic functions of the Bluetooth Neighborhood include:  Device Discovery  Service Discovery  Establishing links with remote devices Terminology Before you install and begin using your new Bluetooth capable sleeve, please take a few minutes to review some of the terms that you will be seeing throughout the documentation. 1–2Compaq iPAQ Bluetooth Sleeve User Guide Getting Started  Authentication: Security feature that requires users to verify a numeric passkey before exchanging data.  Authorization: Security feature that requires user approval before another user is allowed to share data.  Bonded Device: Recognized by your device so as not to require Authentication or Authorization.  Device: Bluetooth equipped piece of hardware.  Device address: Unique electronic address of a Bluetooth device.  Device discovery: The location and recognition of one Bluetooth device by another.  Device group: Compilation of several Bluetooth devices into a group, normally to conduct related tasks.  Device name: Name that a Bluetooth device provides when discovered by another device.  PIM: Personal Information Manager (e.g. Contacts, Calendars and Tasks)  Service Discovery: Determining which applications that other devices have in common with yours. Customer Registration You can receive the latest information on your iPAQ accessory, as well as special offers on iPAQ H3000 accessories and software, by registering with Compaq. 2–2Compaq iPAQ Bluetooth Sleeve User Guide Device Discovery Device List Presented in tabular format, the device list displays devices found during the search. Device name is presented on the left and device type is presented on the right. The list can be sorted by either Device Name or Type by tapping the respective header. ✎ You can tap-and-hold any of the devices that appear in this list to initiate an action (e.g. send a business card). (see X.X, "Communicating With Other Devices")  Search buttonóLaunches the search for devices. (see X.X, "Searching for Devices")  Save buttonóAllows you to save devices to device groups. (see X.X, "Saving Devices")  Filter buttonóLaunches the search filter screen (see Figure 2-2). Allows you to tailor your search to specific device(s). "Find all devices" is initially selected by default. Also allows you to specify the duration of the search. ✎ If "Stop searching after" is left unchecked, the search will continue until you terminate the search by tapping either "Stop Search" or "ok". Search Filter Searching for Devices Your initial search was conducted when you first launched the application. (refer to X.X "Getting Started") It is always possible to conduct a new search for Bluetooth devices. This search will have no affect on any devices that you have previously saved to any of your Device groups. 1. At the bottom of the main window, tap "Search". The search screen will appear (see Figure 2-1). 2. On the search screen, tap "Search". The iPAQ will begin searching for Bluetooth devices in the area. The devices will appear on the screen as they are found (see Figure 2-3). 2–4Compaq iPAQ Bluetooth Sleeve User Guide Device Discovery ✎ The "Search" button will change to "Stop Search" while the search is in progress. It will change back to "Search" when the search is complete (times out) or when you tap "Stop Search." Figure 2-3. Searching for BT Devices Saving Devices Once a device is discovered and you decide that you want to save it for future use, it should be saved to a Device group. The procedure is identical to that used when you conducted your initial search with the exception that you may now have more Device groups to choose from. 1. The Device groups screen will appear (see Figure 2-4). 3. Check the box next to any of the groups that you want to save these devices to. ✎ You can check one or several groups. You can also modify the groups prior to making your selection by tapping the "Add/Edit/Delete" button (see X.X, "Modifying Groups") 4. Tap "ok" to return to the Search screen. 5. Repeat for additional devices. ✎ Whenever you save a device to any group, it is also saved to the "All Devices" group. Figure 2-4. Displays information about the selected device (see Figure 2-5). Figure 2-5. Device Information  Device NameóName assigned by owner of selected device.  Device AddressóUnique Bluetooth address used to identify the device. Bonding allows the device to bypass authorization and authentication. A bond can be created or broken via the "Actions" menu located at the bottom of the Device Information screen.  Last SeenóIndicates the last date and time the device was discovered near your device.  Device Group ListóTap here to review or specify which groups this device belongs to. (see X.X, "Moving and Removing Devices")  Services ListóDisplays those services that your device and the selected device have in common. The status column shows the current state of each service.  Actions MenuóAllows you to initiate an action with the selected device (e.g. send a business card). (see X.X, Communicating With Other Devices") Viewing Devices Devices can be viewed in two different formats, Icons and List. You can establish communication from the Main Window, the Search Window or the Device Information Dialogue Window. From the Main Window or Search Window: Tap-and-hold the device you wish to communicate with; you will be presented with a list of services that the selected device supports (see Figure 2-9). 3–4Compaq iPAQ Bluetooth Sleeve User Guide Device Groups 1. Select the group you want to delete. 2. Tap the "Delete" button. 3. Tap "ok" to return to the previous screen. Group Settings Accessed by selecting "Settings for <group>" from the "Tools" menu in the main window (see Figure 3-4), can be tailored for each device group. These settings will provide the group certain information about your device, as well as specify how our device will interact with the rest of the group. The group settings are distributed among six different tabs (shown below). You can change the group that you are modifying from any tab. Shifting groups or tabs will automatically save data. General Tab  Device NameóThis is the name that other Bluetooth device users will see when they discover to your device.  Default Passkey (Blank by default)óUsed for authenticating connections requested by other devices for transactions that require a "Passkey" (see other service tabs for passkey requirements). The other user will require to know your passkey to complete the transaction. If left blank, you will be requested to enter a passkey every time that one is required. 3–6Compaq iPAQ Bluetooth Sleeve User Guide Device Groups  Delete inactive devices after...óDetermines how long any device will remain in the group between discoveries. You can specify the number of days that the system will use (the default is 30 days). If the checkbox is left unchecked, devices will never be automatically deleted from the group. Let other devices connect to me (Checked by default)óCheck this box to allow other devices to connect and conduct transactions. If unchecked, no other device can initiate a connection with your device. ✎ This checkbox has no affect on outgoing connection requests.  All Devices (Default)óAny device can attempt to connect.  Only bonded devicesóOnly bonded devices can connect. Connect only to selected devices  Transmission power for this groupóAllows you to choose the transmission power level that will be used whenever the group is selected. Selection of this power level will determine the transmit range (and therefore power consumption) of your device. Bluetooth chip BC01. This application contains the information specified by the FCC as required for all manufacturers of Bluetooth products that use the Cambridge Silicon Radio Bluetooth Chip set BC01 Common information that pertains in their product. to all products using this chip is attached as an appendix to this letter as specified by the FCC is permissible. A processing gain report applicable to the Cambridge Silicon Radio transceiver chip previously accepted by the FCC is submitted with this application. As stated by Cambridge Silicon Radio, the BC01 chip contains an integral transmitter, receiver and processing gain filters. Thus, the processing gain of any device using this chip is identical. This device is used with a hand held personal digital device assistant (PDA) that is subject to verification as a Class B digital device as verbally confirmed by Mr. Ray LaForge at the FCC Laboratory on August 17, 2001. The transceiver sleeve manufactured by Philips that attaches to the PDA is therefore a Class B digital device subject to verification. The required verification has been performed. Sincerely, Phillip Inglis Consultant 14085 Howard Rd Dayton, MD 21036 BLUETOOTH APPROVALS The following exhibit indicates the FCC Spread Spectrum requirements in Section 15.247 for devices meeting the Bluetooth Specifications in the 2.4 GHz band as of February 2001 operating in the USA. The purpose of this exhibit is to help expedite the approval process for Bluetooth devices. This exhibit provides items that vary for each device and also provides a list of items that are common to Bluetooth devices that explains the remaining requirements. The list of common items can be submitted for each application for equipment authorization. This exhibit only specifies requirements in Section 15.247, requirements in other rule Sections for intentional radiators such as in Section 15.203 or 15.207 must be also be addressed. For each individual device, the following items, 1-7 will vary from one device to another and must be submitted. 1) The occupied bandwidth in Section 15.247(a)(1)(ii). 2) Conducted output power specified in Section 15.247(b)(1). 3) EIRP limit in Section 15.247(b)(3). 4) RF safety requirement in Section 15.247(b)(4) 5) Spurious emission limits in Section 15.247(c). 6) Power spectral density requirement in Section 15.247(f) in the acquisition mode. NOTE :- In the case where a module’s Bluetooth functionality is completely determined by the BC01 chip which features an integral transmitter, receiver and the processing gain filters. As discussed between Mr. J. Dichoso (FCC) and Mr. C. Neal (CSR), all BC01 based modules are deemed to have identical processing gains, and as such, the test report for product FCC ID O2Z-BT2 can be submitted as evidence for the Process Gain requirements. For all devices, the following items, 1-12, are common to all Bluetooth devices and will not vary from one device to another. This list can be copied into the filing. 1 Output power and channel separation of a Bluetooth device in the different operating modes: The different operating modes (data-mode, acquisition-mode) of a Bluetooth device don’t influence the output power and the channel spacing. There is only one transmitter which is driven by identical input parameters concerning these two parameters. Only a different hopping sequence will be used. For this reason, the RF parameters in one op-mode is sufficient. 2 Frequency range of a Bluetooth device: The maximum frequency of the device is: 2402 – 2480 MHz. This is according the Bluetooth Core Specification V 1.0B (+ critical errata) for devices which will be operated in the USA. Other frequency ranges ( e.g. for Spain, France, Japan) which are allowed according the Core Specification must not be supported by the device. 3 Co-ordination of the hopping sequence in data mode to avoid simultaneous occupancy by multiple transmitters: Bluetooth units which want to communicate with other units must be organized in a structure called piconet. This piconet consist of max. 8 Bluetooth units. One unit is the master the other seven are the slaves. The master co-ordinates frequency occupation in this piconet for all units. RF Exposure Compliance Requirement. Table 1 0f 47 CFR 1.1310 defines the maximum permissible exposure (MPE) for the general population as 1 mW/cm 2 . The distance from the transmitting antenna where the exposure level reaches the maximum permitted level is calculated using the equation: S = (PG)/4π R 2 Where:S = Power density = 1mW/ cm 2 . P = Power input to the antenna = 0 dBm G = linear power gain relative to an isotropic antenna = 1dBi R = Distance to the centre of the radiation of the antenna Solving for S the level is well below the limit at 20 cm from the antenna, approx 0.25 uW/cm sq. Therefore no warning labels, no RF exposure warnings in the manual or other protection measures are required for the Philips transceiver. As mentioned previously, Table 1 0f 47 CFR 1.1310 defines the maximum permissible exposure (MPE) for the general population as 1 mW/cm 2 , and the maximum peak power of the Philips unit is approximately 0dBm (or 1.00 milliwatt) – the highest measured conducted ouput power is below 0 dBm . The radiating element to be used with this product is a short monopole ¼ wavelength antenna with a nominal gain of 1dBi. If we consider a situation where the whole RF power output was to be absorbed by 1 gram of tissue, the SAR limit would still not be exceeded. Please note that due to typical RF circuits constraints, the scenario described above is not possible. Also, if we consider a separation equal or greater than (=>) 20cm, then the above mentioned MPE limits are well above the potential maximum 0 dBm (or 1.00 milliwatt) that the Philips unit capable of producing.
